Favorite Books

Quirky history, sea voyages and shipwrecks.

Scandinavian mysteries and good old fashioned ghost stories.

Folktales - especially those with unhappy endings.

Books with unreliable narrators.

Books I'm Currently reading:

Just finished and really loved "Bright Young Women" by Jessica Knoll. It's a fictional story based on the Ted Bundy murders but told from the victims' side.

"Bunny" - by Mona Awad. Creepy and cool.

Demon of Unrest - Erik Larson.

Books on my shelf waiting to be read include: "The Wager" by David Grann.

When I'm feeling tired - mellow jazz.

About Me

Things I like:

Circus (going to them and their history). I've even tried the flying trapeze.

Coney Island

Eurovision - I've got a mini crush on Dadi Freyr - 2024 Grand Final May 11

Artists: Edward Gorey, Michael Sowa, Else Bostelmann, Theodor Kittelsen.

Recently I discovered the art of Ivar Rødningen on a trip to Norway (I plan to be incredibly annoying with references to my recent trip there). His troll pictures are magical.

Ivar

Seeing movies in old cinemas.

Road trips and roadside attractions. I'm a big fan of Atlas Obscura.

Watching the birds in my backyard. We recently saw an owl in our birdbath which was very, very cool.

Antique stores and flea markets.

Paranormal museums.

Old cemeteries - I spent many hours adding to the findagrave.com site.

Writing bad poetry.

Very basic astronomy. I know about 3 constellations at present. But am always up for watching a meteor shower.

The moon. Rabbits. Moon rabbit.

Watching lightning storms.

Forests and mountains.

Squids, octopi and other interesting sea creatures.

Trolls - not the cute ones with pink hair but the grumpy Scandinavian types.

Train trips.

Groovy mid century stuff - from furniture to jello molds to lava lamps. And don't get me started on casseroles!

Things I don't like: most sports, itchy sweaters and red beets.

Things I'd like to swap

Vintage postcards

black and white photos

book and music recommendations

folk art and folk tales

urban legends

old maps and travel ephemera

ghost stories

bookmarks

patches - especially of places like parks or attractions

I enjoy when the sender adds their own personal touch to the card, however they feel inspired.

Things I wouldn't like to swap

Religious tracts

political pamphlets

advertisements

a photo of your uncle asleep after Christmas dinner

Nice to meet you!

Favorite Crafts

I've gotten into crochet and have started some Christmas afghan projects. I'm not terribly great at it, but I'm really good at long rows of colorful stripes.

I like to create things for my garden. I've made a retaining wall and mosaic stepping stones. Growing things in the garden is another story. Cacti and weeds seem to do best. I recently made a heart shaped raised flower bed in memory of my Mom. Not sure what will work in our AZ heat, but it's a satisfying project.

Comment: Wow! What an awesome bird PC! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Also, your story of an owl in your bird bath, that must have been a sight to see. I've got three bird baths in my backyard, and I often hear an owl in the evenings (in my neighbor's tree), so I can only hope that I get to see a similar bathing experience! Best, Rick
Response: You're welcome, so glad you like it. And I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
