GIFTS FOR MY HOUSE FAIRYâ„¢, #1

Let's do a series of swaps for our friends, our house fairies. After all, they need more than just a door!

We'll use the common dollhouse scale of 12:1, which means 12 inches/1 foot in our world equals 1 inch in theirs. (For those using metric, 30cm in our world equals 2.5cm or 25mm in theirs). Sometimes this scale is listed as 1:12, but still means that 1 inch in their world is 12 inches in ours.

For this first swap, let's make some ARTICLES OF CLOTHING for our house fairies. In the colder climates, mittens, scarves, hats, and sweaters are nice, although what fashionable fairy couldn't use a new skirt or pair of pants, socks, or even slippers or shoes?

DON'T HAVE HOUSE FAIRIES? Then use these tiny articles of clothing to make a lovely garland to decorate a doorway, perhaps to the laundry room?

QUANTITY: Since these are very small and will work up super quick and easy, send a minimum of 3 items to your partner. Of course, you can always send more for hearts.

SIZE: Keep in mind the scale. A sweater, for example, would be about 2inches (5cm) long. Mittens would be smaller, but we won't worry if your scale is off a little bit. Fairies are very adaptive! And tiny things can be more challenging to make than you might think. But don't make 3inch mittens; that would be way off. Try to keep to scale as much as possible. If you aren't sure about scale, you can always look at clothes for a 12 inch (30cm) doll (such as Barbie) for ideas. If you still aren't sure, just ask.

CONSTRUCTION: You can sew by hand or machine or both, or knit, or crochet. Any or all. For example, you could knit a sweater, sew a skirt, and crochet a hat. It's up to you. And please feel free to embellish in any way you'd like. Fairies love beautiful things. Glittery and sparkly things, too.

COLORS: Sender's choice for the color/pattern/design.

As always, I allow high quality swappers only. Because of past swap hosting experience, I do not allow newbies in my swaps. I'm sorry. But this won't be the last GIFTS FOR MY HOUSE FAIRYâ„¢ swap I host. So if you are new, go, get experience, and watch for a later GIFTS FOR MY HOUSE FAIRYâ„¢ swap!

ALSO, be sure to check out my separate swap for FAIRY QUILTSâ„¢! In the future, I will host swaps for goodies, furniture, craft room supplies, pets, wall decorations, kitchen items, and pampering items for our house fairies. Watch for them throughout 2008!

BECAUSE THIS IS SMALL AND LIGHTWEIGHT, AND EVEN 3 ARTICLES OF CLOTHING COULD FIT IN A STANDARD ENVELOPE, I WILL ALLOW INTERNATIONAL. If you keep the entire envelope thickness to less than 1/4 inch (5mm or .5cm), I think it can be mailed without a customs form.

If someone wants to sign up but the international aspect is a hindrance for whatever reason, message me privately (not through the comments section) and we'll work something out.

AS ALWAYS, BE SURE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. And most of all, HAVE FUN! HAPPY SWAPPING! ©

OOOOOPS!!!! I made a goof with the scale! Clothing for 12" dolls is a 1:6 scale, not a 1:12 scale. I have sent an email to everyone signed up for this swap as of tonight (1/21/08 at 9pm EST). So, check your email, talk to your house fairies, and send me an email with your suggestions.

The consensus seems to be that using any scale between 12:1 and 6:1 is fine for this swap. Maybe next time we'll refine it, but for now, if your items are in the 1 to 2 inch range, that will be fine. Happy swapping!
