Description:

I like making all kinds of books but lately, paper bag journals have been keeping me busy. They are small, fast and inexpensive to make. I participated in the Paper Art Journal swap here on Swap-bot back in May.

The idea for this swap is to make 3 individual paper bag pages and send to 3 partners. Then you will receive 3 different pages in the mail. If this swap is popular, we'll do it again to make our journals fatter and art-ier!

There are several paper bag art journal tutorials to help you get started. You can also look on Flickr and Google for ideas.

You will take your paper bag - I'm talking lunch bag size, 10.5" x 5.25" x 3.25" - folded in half. You will have 4 surfaces to decorate, and you can decorate the flap, or cover it. It is ARTIST'S CHOICE. You do not have to poke holes - that will be up to the receiver. You can choose a theme or do 4 random arty scenes. You can start your journal now by making a page for yourself and a cover if you wish.

These pages are ARTIST's CHOICE but if you want to wait until partners are assigned and make themed pages that s/he will like, that's fine too. You may want to add a section to your profile and list some themes you LOVE - you can also list them below.

This swap will be open to swappers in GOOD standing - I do check profiles. No recent or unexplained 1's or 3's. And this swap is for folks who want to try something new - not just use scrap booking stuff and call it finished.

Round 1 was fun and almost complete. Just to be clear - take a lunch bag, fold in half and decorate 4 sides of bag. You can use the flap, or not. If you participate in this swap and future rounds, you will end up with several sets of pages that you can bind into a small art journal. I like to look at other people's art and use it as inspiration for my own art journals.

I love this swap, is that one page per partner like last time?

I just clicked the above link and followthepapertrail was on. That is where I got my idea. Is this ok for the journal I thought I may have done mine wrong the last time.

As I said before, I like collecting different art to assemble into a book. What you make was fine, but I plan to add other pages from other swappers and some of my own to make a small art book.

I just joined and look forward in decorating my lunch bag pages. Can't wait to see what everyone creates. What a great way to have a world wide artist book. thanks for having this swap. bearnbabs

I just made my first 3 pages. But what I did was . I drew 1" from the crease of the paper bag. That will be where you bind the book together. And this leaves a 5"X4 1/2" space to do your art work. I used a 5" X 10 3/4" lunch bag. I hope this is ok. PLease let me know.

That is the correct size. And yes, leave a small margin near the crease so that the receivers can bind the way they like. I bind mine with the pamphlet stitch, and I add a cardboard or card stock cover.

And I plan to continue these swaps so you can make several collaborative art books!
