Okay...so I read all about Slams and it reminded me of the Slam books I used to bring to school back in junior high and high school. It was a great way to get to know friends and new people! So I looked into them on swapbot. I read swaps and they said swapping established books, or send 5-yikes!! What about those of us newbies that would like to try a Slam, but are new to making them or haven't made one in years? What if we are scared to start, afraid we will let down an established partner? Well, here's a chance for us to start!

For this swap, you will make 1 Slam and send it to 1 partner. (Partners, please try and send the Slam on after you fill in your pages so it doesn't just sit and collect dust. If you would like to be considered for getting books after we get going, place a comment in the comment section, stating that you would like to help keep these on the move so others in the swap can contact you). The Slam questions and theme are up to the maker, but I would like to make it a requirement that everyone use a composition book to keep unity in the swap ( like the ones kids use for school). Easy right? Established Slam swappers are welcome, just understand you will likely get a partner that is brand new at this type of swap. Be gentle ;)

Please everyone, rate according to time invested and the courage to try something new, not just what you like or don't like, remember each of us is making a book that will eventually end up back with its creator.

Here is the glossary description of a slam-

Slams – A slam is a booklet similar to a deco or friendship book except that each page will have a question on it, and each signer will answer the question. You usually fill in your name and answers on a certain number. Example-Tina fills in her name on line #5, then she would answer all the questions on line #5 for each page. A slam is made “for” somebody and their information is usually on the cover. Once the booklet is full it will be sent back to this person. Slams can be themed or regular. Typically they are usually small like a standard friendship book. However, for this swap, everyone will be using a composition book. Often they have a “sign-in” page where you put your name, then each page will often contain a question which you answer (i.e. When was the last time you said “I love you”) and the signer would write the appropriate response. At the end there is often a sign-out page as well where it’s dated. Slams have many variations and can be “sign if” slams (you sign only if the statement or question applies to you). These are handled in a number of ways, but most of them become more clear when you have it in-hand.

I hope this sounds like fun and we get a new group of Slam makers! Please try and make your book as creative as you can and remember, it will be back to you in the future, so it is a good idea to make it fun and durable. Don't forget your address in the front or the address of who you would like it sent to when it is done. Please make your questions are easy to understand. Any other questions, please PM me. You can probably even look on youtube for how to make one of these! For swappers of 4.9 or higher rating and no recent 1's or 3's. Newbies welcome!

I have given lots of time to make this swap, so you can have the time to learn, invest into your Slam, and still enjoy the holidays!

I just edited it due to shipping cost being almost 10.00 for international. :(

Cyndimom 10/12/2011 #

I will try and do that, but might be a little busy in December ;)

Alright, so I make it and send it to my partner, who then rates me and sends it to someone else, right? And so forth...so how do people know when to send it back to you? Is it when you have no more spots? Then what? We can let other people know on this message that we want to get theirs and they can send it to us, right?

Cyndimom 10/12/2011 #

Yes, that is how the rating works and then they find other swaps to keep the slam moving or they can look at the comments here to find swappers that are willing to sign it and keep it moving. They send it back when it is full of names. I am willing to receive any of them and remail them when I am done filling them out. ;)

Just want to be clear...when you say composition book, do you mean a full sized one or a mini?

Cyndimom 10/13/2011 #

Full size-but you don't have to fill in every page-if you just want 25 questions and then a page for everyone to sign out on that is fine. Or you can fill it in as much as you want ;)

Shipping should be reasonable too. I bought one and it weighed a little over 10 oz, so we can even do first class shipping. I checked for 12 oz from Utah to Indiana-just to be random if someone wanted to decorate it and/or send extras and it was $3.24 for shipping first class and $2.41 for media mail-which you can do since this is a book. It just takes a few days longer so you would need to send it earlier.
