How big is a size A5?? We don't have number and sizes on ours in the USA atleast I never knew we did if we do!!

fawnscrafts 10/18/2011 #

It took a while before I found this information.

Here are the metric dimensions of the a5 envy.

A5 envelope 162mm x 229mm to fit your own greetings cards, etc. Good quality 120gsm paper

This seems to be the closest to the European size.

A-10 6" x 9.5"

Ellen123 10/18/2011 #

Yes I think that's the same :) I don't know all the inches-sizes... I can only say that it's bigger then a normal-envelope for postcards.

Gofeen 10/18/2011 #

Is A5 half the size of A4?

Veterok 10/18/2011 #

A5 is half A4. I love the fact that someone here actually uses the metric system because we Europeans almost always have to suffer from inches and ounces and stuff like that on international sites. Hahah

Lexidh 10/22/2011 #

A4 is the size of the paper you put in a printer/copier!

TerryF 10/22/2011 #

1) The Letter

The most popular U.S. paper size is the “Letter,” the familiar 8.5″ x 11″ used in all offices across America. It’s also known as “A” size. Its European counterpart is A4, which close: 8.3 x 11.7 inches or 210 x 297 mm.

2) Legal

Next comes the “Legal” size: 8.5″ x 14″ in U.S. which really does not have a rough equivalent in the Metric system.

3) Ledger

Third comes the strange and fascinating “B” size (“Ledger”) at 11″ x 17″. It’s metric counterpart is A3 which measures 11.7 x 16.5 inches, or 297 x 420 mm.

4) “Shortie”

One other size I use frequently for small or short documents is 8.5″ x 5.5″, which is exactly the half of A or Letter size. There is no commonly-used U.S. name for that size. That’s why I like calling it a “shortie” But in Europe it’s referred to as A5 and it comes as 5.8 x 8.3 inches or 48 x 210 mm.

Newbies????

Ellen123 10/23/2011 #

newbies are welcome too :)

RaineyDay 10/23/2011 #

May I ask what is kawaii, and what if I cannot find that in my area????

peacegirl10 10/23/2011 #

I love that, not only do we have fun with swap-bot, but we learn also. thank you for the info on the envelopes...:o)

papercaper 10/23/2011 #

@RaineyDay - Kawaii is Japanese for "cute". Kawaii things are often Japanese and typically feature characters that are cartoony and colourful. Think Hello Kitty for starters, but the scope is actually much wider than Hello Kitty.

I don't see it mention kawaii in the swap.... I'm sure that, unless you're in a swap that's specifically designed for kawaii swapping, it's fine that you don't send any if you can't find any.

papercaper 10/23/2011 #

Yes, A5 is half of A4! I don't have measurements to hand without looking them up, but here's how it works:

A1 is a very large piece of paper.

Halve A1 to get A2

Halve A2 to get A3

Halve A3 to get A4 (similar to American 'letter' size)

Halve A4 to get A5 (popular size for zines)

Halve A5 to get A6

Halve A6 to get A7

There are also B sizes, and C sizes. e.g., C6 is a standard size for envelopes. It will comfortably enclose about 5 standard postcards.

sierasita 10/24/2011 #

i have a question:should we put the 5 things in A5 envie???

Ellen123 10/24/2011 #

A5 or bigger :)

hartline22 10/25/2011 #

What are Zines? So it is like a Bubble Wrap envelope?

candigirl 10/25/2011 #

This sounded like a fun swap, until it got confusing and far, far too complicated for the likes of me....

manders2280 10/26/2011 #

When I was a newbie I found a glossary under the upper-right Help! link that answers many questions people are asking. It explains zines and kawaii.

Panj 10/26/2011 #

So are we talking large brown envie then? I am totally confused! LOL

Aleksis 10/26/2011 #

@Panj you just have to send it in a A5 envelope size. Nothing about brown color.

Itti 10/26/2011 #

A4 is just standard size paper (lined notepads, printer paper, etc. - the most common size for all of this). A5 is what you get when you fold a piece of A4 in half. It's an international standard size of paper.

If you're not familiar with these terms, just measure your envelope! A5 is 14.8 x 21 cm. It's not really that complicated. The coordinator already said you are fine to use a bigger envelope, just make sure it's at least that.

Wikipedia backup for size: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A5

Ellen123 10/26/2011 #

wow... now I'm confused too :) I thought the explenations of above are good enough? if not... just send a huge envelope :D

Veterok 10/27/2011 #

LOL to what koekje87 said :D I agree.

Panj 10/27/2011 #

@ltti thank you. Its only confusing when you think of everything in inches and not metric.(like me!) I will just measure an envie. LOL

Panj 10/27/2011 #

@Aleksis brown envelope is just a type I was talking about. I know that wasn't what she said to send, I was just mentioning that one as an example so someone could help me out. They are usually 6x9 /9x12. I knew those sizes! LOL

Itti 10/27/2011 #

@Panj 9x12" is slightly bigger than A4 so 6x9 (half) must be slightly bigger than A5. So if you use your 6x9 envelope you should be fine :)

Regret 10/28/2011 #

What's then if my partner don't have "likes" on her profile?

Veterok 12/29/2011 #

Hmm, I never got my swap.
