This is the third in an occasional series of 'green' craft projects, allowing us to raid our stashes and upcycle/recycle normal household materials into Somerset loveliness. We had such fun with this last time that I thought I would try it again, especially because gift cards are such popular holiday gifts. Gift cards can make wonderful presents but sometimes seem a bit impersonal. A lovely handmade gift card holder shows the recipient that you can be practical, thoughtful, AND creative. Making your gift card holder from an upcycled toilet tissue tube, the 'green' element in this project, shows your respect for the environment, too. For this swap you will recycle a toilet tissue tube and make your partner one gift card holder in the Somerset Style. Decorate the outside of a flattened tube using paint, ink, paper, fiber, and/or fabric to create unique and interesting layers. Embellish with words, game pieces, jewelry bits, flowers, tags, glitter, lace, fabric, beads, or anything Somerset-like. Add a handle made of fiber or wire and close the bottom securely. Voila! A lovely gift card holder that adds your special touch. EDITED: You may use any size tube as long as it is capable of holding a gift card. Theme and color palette is SenderΓ’β¬β’s Choice. Craft with the care and quality weΓ’β¬β’ve all come to associate with Somerset Publications. An optional twist: Make two at the same time and tuck one away for yourself to use during the holiday season. [Yes, there is a method to my madness. If I can't craft ahead on my own, I will shamelessly get you to help me!] This is not required, by any means; Just a suggestion to get the awesome feeling of "Oooh! this year I'm really getting ready in advance!" |
