Description:

I am looking to put my tree up soon for the holidays. I LOVE handmade ornaments, and love even more getting them from other crafters.

With that in mind I am going to start an ornament series. Some will be specific, some will be totally free form. If you join all of them you will have a collection of interesting and completely unique ornaments to use in any holiday decorating! Below is the list of the series, I will add links as I create the swaps.

#1 Stuffed Birdies

#2 Paper Ornamentation

#3 Play with Glass

#4 Wood Wood and more Wood

#5 Sew Sew

#6 Beads! More Beads!

#7 Jingle Bells, Robin Lays an Egg…

#8 Handmade Ornament of Choice

This is NOT just for Christmas! I will ask that no religious themes be used in materials - ie no crosses, religious verbiage, no dredels... use universal themes like peace, and love and harmony! Or just bright colors and textures, lol. I will invite all participants to a flickr group that is open for public viewing. Come share your creations and stories!

Number 5 in the ornament series should be sewn. Yes, its really that simple. Bring out your sewing chops and make SOMETHING sewn. Your ornament needs to be hangable when completed, with an area to add a hook to, or in a form that is hangable (like paper chain is). You can add embellishments of choice, like buttons, beads, glitter, etc.

I encourage recycling! Almost anything can be sewn in some fashion! Paper, plastic, fabrics, leathers, metal - you just never kknow! The sewing can be with thread, yarn, or made up fibers like strips of plastic bags. It can hold the ornament together, or be purely decorative, it just needs to have sewing of fibers as the main theme, or an obvious design element. The way shoe laces work is a sewing technique - so use your imagination!

Your ornament needs to be reasonably sturdy for the craft, and no more than 4" tall. If made well and with good quality basics even a paper ornament can last a lifetime, I have had many now for several years. This is senders choice, but you will have time after final sign up to find out what your partner likes and custom make something for them.

This is not open to newbies, and you must have a 4.8 rating and above with no unexplained 3's or 1's in the last 6 months. I will angel if needed, but lets all get this swap done and sent out on time! This is international. The ornaments may be light weight but you should be prepared to send something in a small box or padded envie.

This is a type 3 swap, so be prepared to put some thought and effort into it! You can find VERY simple and fast patterns, and may want to make a whole series of them when you are done! This will not require great skill or a lot of tools, please do not hesitate to join just because you do not have a sewing machine or are afraid of needles! (ok, afraid of needles might be a good reason.)
