Yarn Ball - Surprises!

Oh man! I'm so excited about this swap! I've seen pictures of these things on flickr and I've been wishing to make one for a while now. thanks for hosting :)

This sounds like a fun swap.

I have seen pictures of these but have not participated in a swap for this. Before I sign up, what do you consider NICE yarn. I know some yarn gets rather pricy and I am not a knitter but I do love yarn.

i wasnt going to do too many swaps but i had so much fun with the christmas yarn ball i have to do this one!!!! these are FUN!!!

i like bulky yarns, but any fiber is ok, no allergies or anything.
no eyelash, though. hate the stuff, makes me sneeze.

Mammadoo, good question. A lot of people prefer natural fibers, and they usually put that in their profile. Some people hate acrylic, but I don't put all acrylic yarns in the same category. There's the cheap Red Heart, and some of the cheaper eyelash yarns you can get in the $1 bin. Those are not OK. But there are some really nice acrylic/nylon kinds of yarns. I like Sassy Girl at Hobby Lobby. It's $10 a skein, when not on sale, and even though it's not a natural fiber, I still think it is a very nice yarn. So basically, just don't get the cheap cheap stuff. Fun fibers are OK, as long as they are the nicer kinds. Does this help?

Thanks for the info. I will take at look at Sassy Girl (I like the name) and probably will go by the cost. Although more expensive does not always mean better but I am getting an idea of what you are talking about. What the heck, I will give it a try.

Just to clarify, I do NOT pay full price for Sassy Girl, or any of those other yarns. I either wait for them to go on sale, or I use their 40% coupon. You don't have to SPEND that much, I was just trying to explain the difference between cheap acrylic and the nicer stuff. And thanks for joining this swap!

Does $10 value mean the cost of goodies and the yarn or does it mean whatever the yarn costs and add $10 of goodies?

Another good questin, AnniePhil. The value of the whole package should be at least $10. So, if you use a ball of yarn that is around $5, then you put around $5 worth of goodies in it. The package should be a value of $10, but the postage is extra. I didn't make this a super high value on my very first hosted swap. For the next one, I may kick it up a notch, but I think people will probably be comfortable with this level. But remember, if you aim for hearts, you can always add extras. Thanks Ladies!!

Is this a dumb question....what is a stuffie?

Not a dumb question at all. Since being on S-B I've learned lots of new things, like dotee dolls and ATCs. A stuffie is just a fabric item, like a heart, stuffed and decorated with beads, embroidery, sequins, or whatever. They sometimes have a thread to hang them by. Just a small way to use your creativity and make something cute. Does that help?

Count me in if you do an international one - this sounds fun!
