Description:

I love making altered matchboxes, but I haven't had time lately to do many swaps... that changes now! Let's make spring matchboxes!

the simple guidelines:

For this easy, international matchbox swap we will each have just one partner. You will make your partner one spring-themed matchbox - the small 32-count size matchbox (approximately 2 inches x 1.5 inches x .5 inches). You can decorate a real, empty matchbox, or download my template here and construct your box with card stock.

What is spring-themed? It could be flowers, baby animals, May Day, spring break, or anything else you can dream up. This swap is sender's choice.

You also need to fill your matchbox with spring-themed goodies. I like filling my boxes with stickers, ribbon, brads, buttons, beads, and other little embellishments. Anything goes, but make sure you send something you would love to receive.

Remember to include your name, your swap-bot username, and your email address in your package.

requirements:

This swap is international. Everyone must have a 5.0 rating. A filled out profile is required.

let's swap:

Remember that you can get any type of spring-themed matchbox in this swap. If you don't like spring, flowers, or cute, little animals this probably isn't the swap for you. Let's have fun!

xoxo

Well, here goes another new craft I've not ever done before...But, I'm game and looking forward to it...

Welcome! Making matchboxes is totally easy! Also, I just updated the downloadable PDF matchbox templates on the blog. You can print them for help with making the boxes from scratch.

These are my absolute favorite to make. And it's icing on the cake to fill the box with special trinkets. :-)

Can someone give me some tips on shipping these please?

racheljohnson 03/29/2012 #

If you fill the boxes really full, it helps them keep their shape. I also wrap my matchboxes in tissue and mail them in bubble envelopes. Some people make "guards" for their boxes using strips of cardboard.

Great, thank you. :) Mine's been made and ready to go for a while now, very full, just wasn't too sure about envelopes and what not.

Ok, you guyz, I've not made one of these before, and while I did print out the template, I don't have any tracing paper, so when I went to transfer it, I only had the very outside cutting line...I couldn't quite get it to go together properly...Any suggestions? Or an easy way to put them together? HELP!! I'm a dolt...

I just made my first test matchbox today. To say the least I'm addicted and had to join the swap!! I can't believe how much fun they are to make not to mention how cute they are!!

Hi! I was just wondering if one can make a larger matchbox?? I love making bigger ones to fill with more goodies!

racheljohnson 04/12/2012 #

It is fun to hear that some of your are making matchboxes for the first time!

@Peanutbutterrhino - It is required that your matchbox be as close as possible to the standard small matchbox size (approximately 2 inches x 1.5 inches x .5 inches). Many people collect only that size of box.

Hi swappers! Sorry for the slight delay, but partners have now been assigned. Have fun and happy swapping! If you need some ideas for matchbox style, you can see a few of the boxes I've made for similar swaps in the past here, here, and here. xoxo

I see that three participants have not yet marked this swap as sent - not good - I DO angel my swaps, but only after you have given your sending partner a 1 rating. Let me know if you do not receive in two weeks.
