Description:

ATCs are my favorite things. I know some people fear what the super artist critics here think based on..maybe something you've heard or read in the forum or something?

Well, lets give it a try.

Please look on flickr for 'atc' and you'll get a world of inspiration (I still do and I've done this for MANY years).

You'll want to use something sturdy for your backing. (Think heavy cardstock. Even better, I alter sports cards. They're the exact correct size so I just cover it with a plain piece of colored paper or my image I'm using. OR craftstores sell perfect ATC blanks.).

The sky is the limit. I've used melted crayons, rubber stamps, glitter, lace, and I don't know what all else to make the ATC beautiful. Try to stick to something on the flat-ish end though.

Fill out the back. It should include: Your username, the title of the swap, the date, etc. Google ATC back and look at the pics. That's what a typical ATC back looks like.

And most importantly, HAVE FUN. Ask any questions and I'd be happy to answer what I can. :)

I will allow newbies, but please have a filled out profile and remember to rate your partners when you've received your ATC. You will make 3 atcs (to get some good practice) and send 1 atc to each of your partners. The theme is up to you.

ONCE AGAIN: this is for beginners. Experienced members are welcome to join but must know that I'm allowing people with zero experience ever doing this and as such you CAN NOT rate down because you do not like something. I am asking that people try and to try their best. That's it. No one has to have a degree here.

i need to stick to the US swaps for now - short on cash. If you run one of those, I'll join!!

nosboh99 03/27/2012 #

Awesome swap! Still a little nervous about making one but just maybe.......

VivaLaDiane 03/27/2012 #

Don't be nervous. I will back you up no matter what. Nothing to be nervous about.

Barbi 03/27/2012 #

@mrsmoore - I also need to do USA when it comes to 3 partners. Would you like to do a private ATC swap?

davina 03/29/2012 #

You are my hero! I just recently found out about ATCs. Been googling it and found all sorts of other craps like 'Australian Turf Club' or various air traffic control websites. Then, some sweet person kindly helped me by giving correct links to useful sites and youtubes. I'm really interested but very nervous/anxious to start because I didn't have a clue how or if it will be a dissappointed to more experienced swappers. But this swap is a great opportunity to learn, and plenty of time to finish the cards as well, as we need to gather supplies and such. So, thank you for hosting this swap!

Lolli92imo 03/29/2012 #

Are they just a random ATC or do they have a theme of any kind?

VivaLaDiane 03/29/2012 #

Random atcs. Any theme is acceptable.

nosboh99 04/ 4/2012 #

Ok, I'm in. I just found out about zentangle. Thought it was a dance! Thinking of trying that for my first ATC.

oceanna 04/ 5/2012 #

Just wanted to say thank you for holding this swap. Im really looking forward to doing some atcs with other beginners. Just wondering what is the best way to send them. Do they need to be wrapped or in a plastic sleeve or something?

VivaLaDiane 04/ 5/2012 #

The technical only rule is the size. I prefer to send mine in a plastic sleeve. Some people send them inside of a sleeve and then a notecard of sorts for stability reasons (So it's less likely to be bent.) But there is only one for sure rule.

nosboh99 04/ 9/2012 #

Hi, I know the only technical rule is the size, 2.5 x 3.5, but I bought a book on ATCs and, although they did say that was the size, the have examples of ATC's that had like, a pocket for an extra item or had flaps of sorts on them for extra space but the completed projects were still the proper size and fit in to sleeves.

Since I have already made some of these, just wondering if they are allowed?

Thanks!

VivaLaDiane 04/ 9/2012 #

As long as they are the correct size, I don't have an issue.

TheElusiveLemon 04/ 9/2012 #

New here! Can't wait to get my partners and get this started! :)

swwu700914 04/12/2012 #

I really want to join, but who can tell me what is ATC? ATC is means handmade anything?

pam1944 04/12/2012 #

Being the first time I have done a swap in this group, exactly where do I go to get the addresses of my swap partners after they are assigned to me? And, are the ATC's to be in the mail and postmarked by 4/30? Thank you for helping me get started. Pam

VivaLaDiane 04/12/2012 #

On the top swaps :) Thanks everyone.

SWWU700914---An ATC is an Artist Trading Card. Please check out google or flickr to become familiar with what you'll be needing to make.

Pam1944---After the swap closes on April 14, I will check participants and partners will be assigned. You come back to this swap and there will be a link to click to see your swap partners. Yes, the ATCs to your partners will need to be postmarked no later than 4/30.

kejxc 04/13/2012 #

I love making ATC cards!! I'm in an online group that has done a lot of ATC card swaps. What I like about them is that you're not creating a full page or big card, and they don't take a lot of time.

bjmonroe 04/14/2012 #

Great swap. How long are we considered newbies or beginners?

VivaLaDiane 04/14/2012 #

@bjmonroe , I suppose it's different by everyones opinions. I see beginners as having never made, or made less than maybe 10. Similarly 10 quality swaps under your belt? I don't see a newbie anymore.

The beautiful thing is, this swap is open to everyone but with the understanding that new people and inexperienced people will be joining so we experienced ones must be extra kind and courteous. Hope that makes some sense, as I tend to ramble.

bjmonroe 04/14/2012 #

Thanks for that. I have actually asked this newbie question in pf but haven't rec'd an answer yet. I have been a note card maker for years. Going down to ATC size has been difficult and I want all the practice I can get.

VivaLaDiane 04/15/2012 #

The reason is because it's a different answer for everyone. Just stay strong and keep doing the best you can. We ALL benefit from practice. Not just 'newbies'. Γ’β„’Β₯

VivaLaDiane 04/16/2012 #

I'm still going through profiles before assigning partners. PLEASE fill out your profiles a bit, if you haven't already, to help me out. I did ask for this in the swap description but am trying to give everyone ample opportunity to have a successful swap here. Thanks so much.

pam1944 04/16/2012 #

I added to my profile early this a.m., but I got another request to add more???? I don't really know what else to say about myself. Any suggestions of things I might elaborate on. Thanks, Pam E.

dreamerkins 04/16/2012 #

pam1944, how about collections? favorite things? favorite color (s), what kind of paper crafts? themes you really enjoy?

helen4102010 04/18/2012 #

Besides this newbie/beginner ATC, how do people feel about recieving children's work? This was the site listed in family fun magazine; however I get the feeling it's more for experienced artists.

pam1944 04/23/2012 #

to: VivaLa Diane Could you please tell me in the rating box what Type 1, 2 &3 and uncatorized means. I have looked thru the whole website and can't seem to find a definition for it. I recieved a great ATC from one of my partners and would like to fill out everything properly. Thank you for helping me!

VivaLaDiane 05/ 1/2012 #

Helen4102010==this particular swap is for your own work, so please do not send the work of someone else.

Pam, The ratings are: A '5' rating means you received what was required. The heart option is clickable IF the swap was extra special to you.

A '3' rating means the swap did not meet requirements.

A '1' rating means sufficient time has passed and you have received nothing.

If anyone has any other questions, please PM me so that I can respond more timely. Thanks :)
