Description:

For this swap, you're going to read your partner's profile, choose any word from it, then make a postcard displaying that word.

You can make the postcard as elaborate as you likeÒ€”collage, watercolor, any medium. Or you can leave the background plain. The only thing you have to do is put a word from your partner's profile on the postcard. And you can do that in any medium as well. (Hint: this is a chance to play around with image transfer techniques, if you're into it...) Have fun! =smile=

The word "dada" above (which is in my profile) is in the font called Waldorfschrift.

Lemme tell you my not-so-secret technique for getting a free image of any word in any font. I'm not good at writing instructions, so this will probably sound more complicated than it is:

  • Go to myfonts.com and click on a font--it doesn't matter which one. Then fix it so it's displaying your word: the place to insert the word is right above where the letters are--it looks like the text field for a search engine. Be sure to size it to fit the whole area, so the word will be plenty big.
  • Then go back to the home page: you should see your word in a variety of fonts. Now, go shopping for a font! The search engine lets you put in keywords like "bizarre" or "feminine" or "1950s", to help you narrow your choices down.
  • When you find a font you like, click on it so you're seeing the whole family, in case there are choices for bold, etc.
  • Do a screen capture.
  • Take the JPG of your screen capture into a graphics program, cut your word out, and print it. Voila!

Oops! In the second step, you don't go back to the home page: you go back to the previous page you were on, which should've been displaying a bunch of fonts.
