Description:

This swap is for one TH style Whimsy pocket (filled) sent to one partner. Theme- Vintage. Other than that, sender's choice.

I have photos of the one I made on my Flickr and in the TH photo group. The photos show an unfilled pocket.

These are not difficult to make, there are just a few steps.

1- Cut a 2.5 - 3 inch piece off an empty paper towel roll.

2- Cover with paper. I used a Ranger Collage glue stick, but anything should do.

3- Flatten. Smush down. A bone folder helps to make it tidy.

4- Pinch one end closed. Staple, tape or glue that end shut.

That's your basic pocket. But you need a handle. We'll do that in a minute.

You can, if you choose, use tissue tape along the top of pocket and fold over the top to neaten top edge, but you don't have to. I did and you can see a photo of that in group photos. Do that before adding handle.

5- Poke or punch small holes one on either side of the top of pocket. Use a bit of wire to create a handle. You could also use ribbon for the handle.

That's it. Now, decorate your pocket. You can add tissue tape, paper or trim along the bottom of your pocket. You can decorate the top edge as well. And don't forget the front and center. You can keep it simple or embellish to your heart's content.

IMPORTANT- Fill Pocket!

You need to tuck some TH/TH style goodness in your pocket. TH embellishments, die cuts, small tags, whatever you like.

This should give you shoppers and hoarders something to do with your new stuff. :)

Two weeks to make and send. Make it nice and have fun. Remember, this is for a filled whimsy pocket. My photos show an unfilled pocket.

The pocket I made is 3 inches wide and not quite 3 inches long. Some paper towel rolls though are 2.5 inches wide. Just use what you have.

I seem to have forgotten how to add a photo. I blame the cough medicine.

I have photos on my Flikr and in TH group photos.

Could you also use vintage style seam binding or ribbon for the handle too? I made one in a Shabby style once and we used ribbon didn't know if that would work here too. Love this idea these are so much fun to make.

Of course you can use ribbon or seam binding! So good to see you around again Sherie.

Ohhh come on Kat, I just made one tonight and it was super easy! It's so cute. I may have to twist your rubber arm!! LOL!

darcilena 04/30/2012 #

I just noticed it said a" Vintage Theme" and I made a TH style pocket b/c the title of the swap is "TH Style Whimsy Pocket". And I guess I was going by the pic you had on Flickr!! ;)

Can I send the TH pocket and send vintage goodies inside or remake another one that is a Vintage Theme?... I'd love to do a Vintage pocket with a lace handle and send all Vintage goodies... let me know I still have time to make a Vintage Pocket. No Worries as I get confused often!! That'll teach me for having two kids 1 year apart and no sleep for 3 years!!!
