International

The first in what will hopefully become a series of matchbox swaps based around cities worldwide, I want to offer a celebration of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The gist of the swap is that the small, 32 count matchbox is decorated and filled in the theme of this amazing city. It's chock full of history and culture, and has the world famous celebration of Mardi Gras, so there are plenty of possibilities surrounding it. Ideas include:

  1. French themes
  2. Ghosts
  3. Vodoun
  4. Cemeteries
  5. Jazz
  6. Crescent shaped things (nickname is Crescent City)
  7. Umbrellas
  8. Mardi Gras

Possible usable facts about Mardi Gras are the following:

  1. Masks
  2. Purple (justice), Green (Faith), Gold (power)
  3. Beads
  4. Feathers

There are a lot of possibilities beyond these. Do some research and come up with some good ideas. I think it'll be fun, and educational as well.

If people seem to like this, I'll continue with another city after this one is done.

Nitty Gritty details:

  1. Ratings of 4.8+, please.
  2. No more than one no-send in the last six months. PM me if you have a good reason for more, because I know that some people don't rate fairly or jump the gun on rating for international people. I'm pretty understanding.
  3. Newbies allowed with a nicely filled out profile. I mean well filled out, not just a few little things here and there.
  4. Fill the matchbox with goodies, please. Right to the brim. Let's not just go halfway.
  5. Very important!! Let your partner know if you're going to be late! Communication is not only polite, but important.
  6. Also very important!! Rate your partner when you get your swap. You want people to remember to rate you; please have the same consideration for others.
  7. Have fun!!!!

Note: I tend to like to assign partners either after midnight on the appropriate day or early in the morning (sometimes later. Depends on how chaotic life is being). This means that those who need to pm me or fill out their profiles well need to have it done by then or you'll be banned. I hate to ban people, but let's follow the rules, okay? I do also reserve the right to ban people who I think might be disruptive or a problem, so be warned there as well. If I've seen past behaviour that I find unacceptable, like spiteful rating and the like, you're out. Some things I just won't put up with.

I like the idea of a series of matchboxes dedicated to different cities. Great idea.

I'm really excited about this one!!! I don't think I'll have any trouble coming up with a theme.

Thanks to all of you for joining! I hope everyone enjoys it. I'd love to do more!

now all I have to do is get the image I painted to look like a mask rather than a colorful spider ... hehe

Ooo, painting a matchbox sounds really neat, RA! Wish I could paint.

I'm getting antsy for mine. I have stuff coming through the mail for it, but this place has the absolute worst shipping service ever! The stuff got to a city on the other side of my state on Monday and it's taking until Friday to get here. In fact, it sat there for two days and just got sent this way today.

I'm so not patient!

I enjoyed doing it. I'm still not sure that it doesn't look like a colorful spider, but it looks more like a mask than it did. :)

there are pics on my flickr, but since it's coming to you Gayle, you might not want to look!
