Description:

I am itching to make a sewing kit inside an Altoid tin. Who else would like to join me in trying out this idea? All skill levels are welcome as long as you put forth your best effort on this swap.

We will:

  • Empty and clean an Altoid tin. If you do not have access to these, you may use a different candy tin of similar size/shape. They are: 3-13/16" (9.68 cm) long by 2-7/16" (6.19 cm) wide by 3/4" (1.91 cm) deep.

  • Decorate the outside lid in a sturdy way. By this I mean that anything added to the outside should be neatly done and attached securely. It is up to you if you want to also decorate the lower half of the tin. I am new to the world of altering tins, but there are lots of online resources with ideas and techniques.

  • All kits should have a decorated outer top lid. On the top inside lid create a place for needles and pins (a pin cushion or some felt for the needles, etc)

  • All kits must contain: mini scissors, thread, and pins/needles (in the inside of the lid).

  • Choose at least two more items to fill the kit: a thimble, needle threader, buttons (several buttons counts as one item), a measuring tape, safety pins, or another sewing essential.

  • These tins MUST be packed well for mailing, either wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box, or both. Be sure to include your user name and the swap name. :-)

Here's a tutorial for one way to make an Altoid Sewing Kit.

Here are lots of photos for inspiration.

Swapper Requirements
This swap is open to Nuts for Sewing members with no unexplained/unresolved 1s/3s and at least 10 Type 3 swaps. I will check all profiles before assigning partners and will ban anyone with overdue swaps or last log-in date of more than a week before the swap sign-up date.

In the rare circumstance that you must send late, it is expected that you will contact your partner and the swap host before the send-by date has passed.

Let's get out our glue guns and Mod Podge, head to the craft store for some sewing kit fillers, and craft our partners one awesome little sewing kit!
