Description:

I have recently discovered decorated/altered matchboxes. However, so far I haven't had the guts to join any swaps for them as I have never actually attempted it and I'm worried that my first tries might not be up to standard. Therefore I have created this swap for everyone who wants to try it but haven't tried it before. Of course, you are welcome to join if you are advanced in this craft, just bear in mind that you may receive someone's first attempt.

For this swap you will decorate/alter a matchbox (or create your own to decorate) and then fill it with something thoughtful that either is relevant to the outside or to your swap partner's likes. As this is a beginner's swap, there is no set theme for you to follow so you can follow any idea or theme that you choose. Google and Flickr is great for inspiration though try and be original.

Make sure you include a note with the swap name and your name to make it easy to be rated. You can explain your choice of design if you wish.

This is meant to be a fun swap for those who want to try something new so please, no flakers.

i have a question... how is a matchbox swap supposed to be sent out? in what kind of envelope? should we include anything outside? i have no idea and no clue Oo

I would suggest sending it in a bubble envelope or at least wrapping it before putting it in a normal envelope to reduce the chance of it getting squished (though it should be solid enough to hold its shape). What do you mean by include anything outside?

I've decided to make my own matchbox I'm so excited to start and get a swap under my belt!

I am brand new to Swap Bot and it is hard to find swaps that will allow newbies. Thanks soooo much for putting on this swap!!! I am super excited to get started. :)

does the size of the match box matter?? Should it be a traditional size?? I have made some much larger. :)

lilbit1088 06/ 6/2012 #

i had lots of ideas for the larger one!! is there a size specification?

TamaraEpps 06/ 9/2012 #

I'm so glad people are joining this swap :) If possible, try to go for a traditional, smaller size. Making it yourself is fine (that's what I plan to do) and there are templates online though you might have to look quite hard for one that is free. If however, you absolutely can't manage a smaller one, then a larger one is fine.

Let me know if you want me to do more matchbox swaps in the future and any themes you would like to see.

When sending your matchbox, I would highly recommend wrapping it and putting it in a bubble envelope. I've received a few matchboxes that were sent in a regular envelope and none of them arrived in very good condition.

Thanks for the tips Basilika.
