Description:

I was reading through an older Canadian Living Magazine and saw the cutest thing. They created a "JUST IN CASE" travel tin out of an empty Altoids tin. It was the cutest thing!!!!

FOR THIS SWAP:

You will have one partner and you will create a JUST IN CASE tin.The tin needs to be small enough to put in a purse or murse (cause we do have male swappers) or a glove box. In the Tin you will put items in that people may need just in case. The outside of the tin should be decorated to reflect what's inside.

First Aid - bandages, alcohol wipies, sucker, etc etc

Sewing - needle and threads, small scissors etc etc

A night Out - bathroom cologne, samples, hotel soap, condoms (we have grape ones at work) etc etc

Shopping - pencil, quarter for shopping cart, notepad etc etc

The list could be endless - Use your imagination and have fun!

You will have one partner and you will send one altered tin. The tin should be full and include at least 7 items. I will make this International because postage should be minimal.

I will go through the swappers and ban anyone questionable. I have given a few chances and have gotten bit in the bottom so for this swap I will be very strict about who I let in. I hate doing this but it's been bad lately.

So excited! I did my 1st altered Altoids tin the end of June and it was so much fun. And the one I received was just awesome - it blew me away. Especially the amount of stuff she was able to put into such a small tin. WOW! Sign me up - I am SO in on this swap - YAY!!!!! :-)

My son did a first aid one for boyscouts. We cannot stand altoids (sorry altoid dudes) so we used a travel box designed for barsoap. It is only slightly larger than the tins.

Would something like that (the case-I would never get rid of his first aid kit!) be acceptable for this swap? Or does it actually HAVE to be a tin?

GrammaSherry 07/17/2012 #

@mamabemus - I am sticking to the tin requirement. HAVING said that lots of stores carry tins for their particular gift cards and Michaels sell empty tins. I too HATE altoids - disgusting little things. The tin does not have to be Altoids - just the same idea - compact full of stuff!

awesome. thanks for clearing up the tin requirement watching until closer to date

I wanted to ask if I use another tin box, a bit different shaped from the altoid ones. Here in Italy we don't have altoids, and this one is the best tin I could find http://brandnews.ua/resources/images/illustartions/brand3751.jpg does it looks OK for the swap?

There are two sizes of altoids - approximate sizes Which size should we use?

Regular: 3 7/8" X 2 1/2 " (10 cm X 6 cm)

Mini or Smalls: 2" X 1" (5 cm X 2.5 cm)

Hi All.....................As long as it is a tin it is good. If your items fit in a smaller tin thats okay. Round, square, rectangle - whichever works best. I was at the dollar store yesterday and saw a round tin full of paperclips. I plan to you a mini shaped suitcase (even has a handle). I want the swaps I host to be fun and creative - no worries it you cant or dont want to use an altoids tin. Dont forget to decorate your tim to reflect what is inside. HAPPY SWAPPING
