Description:

After a three year break (eek, has it been that long, really??), I’ve decided to host another round of Journal with a Twist Swaps. I have no idea if there is still interest around, but I figured I’d give it a go.

This is the International version.

For this swap you will have one partner and keep a journal for one month(ish). During this time you will write at least twenty entries (but feel free to write more). Each entry should contain some text. Text could be a story, a poem, a couple paragraphs about your day, a quote you like - whatever you feel like writing.

Here's the twist: each entry should also contain an "extra." Extras could include an illustration, a recipe, a collage, a photograph, a song, a little something that you picked up that day (brochure, piece of candy, etc), or whatever else you can come up with. The extras can vary by day, so you could have a song for the first day, a recipe for the second day, and a photograph for the third, etc. Extras can either be glued into the journal (think recipes, photographs, etc) or packed in the box with the journal (think small handmade items, sweets, etc). However, for things that are packed in the box, please note which entry they are for. At least two of the extras need to be higher value. This could be interpreted two ways – either items that have a higher value money-wise ($3-5 USD) or items that have higher value effort-wise (a handmade item of some sort).

Basically the intent of this swap is to create a journal stuffed full of interesting text and goodies. You will send the journal to your partner after one month and they will keep it.

The journal itself can be any size. It can be store bought or handmade.

Please remember to give out hearts for extra "extras" or entries and anything really that goes above and beyond.

*After a lot of consideration and some PMing with several members, I have decided to adjust the minimum rating to a 4.9. *

Due to problems in other journal swaps I've hosted, I reserve the right to skip any person before the send by date. This means, I reserve the right to contact the person who sends to that swapper and have them instead send to the swapper's partner, thereby skipping them. I would not do this lightly, but I will not hesitate to do it if the person's ratings fall significantly, they fail to send out multiple swaps, or they do not sign into swap-bot for 2+ weeks. I would hate to do this, but if it becomes necessary I will. This is a big swap and I don't want people disappointed because they worked really hard on their journal and received nothing in return. I think that covers everything. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Feel free to start your journal as soon as you sign up! Some people like to start it early and then add personalized entries when they find out who their partner is.

I'm sad that I can not join this swap - alas, a perfect record is not attainable when some people don't appreciate what you create. After many times being flaked in journal swaps, though, i do understand your caution. It is so sad to work very hard on a product and then get nothing in return. Let me know if you change the rating to 4.9.

Awesome idea! Any chance of a usa only one?

thisphoenixrises 07/23/2012 #

I just want to make sure I am understanding the directions correctly- the extra doesn't have to necessarily have anything to do with what the entry is about, correct? (For example, if I want to put a package of candy as an extra, does the entry have to somehow mention candy in it?) Sorry if this is a silly question, I just want to make sure that I am doing it right if I sign up!

julief 07/23/2012 #

@obstmikerl - thanks for that info

@HeatherWill - we just completed a USA only one. There may be another round in the future, so keep an eye out :)

@thisphoenixrises - the extra is up to you. Some people prefer to make it related to the journal entry and some people don't care. It's your choice :) Usually though it's good to note which extra is for which day so that if it is loose in the box, your partner will know what day it is for.

I've thought about doing something similar. I've never done one and thought it would be fun. I was going to leave mine open longer than a month. Mine was going to be whatever you want to put in journal but nothing that can't go in the journal. No entry of what your day was. No extras in mine. One day can be poem, recipe, book recomendations, photos, song, drawing by you, child(ren) could do something in it, can be about your day or week (maybe you went to the beach or Disneyland or did something fun), glue an envie inside and stick stickers, photos postcards or something for a surprise for your partner. Would be USA. Anyone interested.

@art3osb I love randomness journals and would definitely love to see a swap for one again

Malika 07/24/2012 #

@art3osb I'm interested!

Does anyone have any pictures of journals like this from past swaps? I am starting to try to plan out a bit what I would like to do but I'm a bit worried that what I come up with might not be what someone else is expecting! (It's annoying but that's right where my mind jumps to with every swap!)

julief 07/24/2012 #

@thisphoenixrises I dont have any pics, but there is really no wrong way to journal though - it's just about having a good time :)

art3osb 08/ 3/2012 #

As long as you do the swap and send it you should get a 5. Even if they don't like the journal. Giving you a heart is their choice.

A 3 is for being late or the item is not what the swap said and

a 1 is for if you do not recieve (you are flaked on) from your partner.

I just want to be sure I understand - ANY size journal - so a small one is fine? Just asking because journal size is what got me a 3 in the first place - I picked one that was an inch too small because it was floral and I thought it went well with the swap. No size requirement????

julief 08/ 6/2012 #

@kgeslab - there is no size requirement for the actual journal :)

TIDBITOLOGIST54 08/ 8/2012 #

Hi-I have done a couple of journals, however, I want to know if you could use a composition book, and if so, do you have to decorate all of the pages or a certain amount of pages? I was just wondering. I guess you could put some pages together to make a few less pages and then decorate..... some feedback please :)

julief 08/ 9/2012 #

@TIDBITOLOGIST54 you can definitely use a composition book. There is no set number of pages that you need to fill, but you need to have 20 total entries.

I spent the afternoon preping my journal and am super excited about how it is coming along...this is my first journal swap in a few years and now I remember why I loved making them before...I personally think it looks amazing and hope my partner loves it too... :)
