Description:

I personally don't understand what is so horrible about handmade cards. I'm going broke trying to get store-bought cards and then get bored with the touristy cards that are all that are available to me at my local stores.

So, hello to all who make their own cards either with home-printing, crafting, collaging, repurposed photos, etc. It doesn't matter how it is made just that it is postcard sized (3x5, 4x6, or 5x7 inches). Should be sent naked, stamped, and written on.

Newbies welcome but no one with lower than a 4.85. This is international with five partners. Come one, come all!

Should the cards be written or blank?

decorous 08/14/2012 #

I have some fabulous greeting cards that I have made into postcards -- can I use them? Of course with no seasonal greetings - just the lovely pictures.... :-)

That's perfectly alright! <3

Im really wanting to do this one but five partners seems a lot. I'm just not sure... Seems a short deadline to make five high quality lovely postcards.

TracyShave 08/23/2012 #

I can't do five partners.. postage is just too expensive now... does it have to be 5?

decorous 08/23/2012 #

If you'd like one with less, you are more than welcome to do a swap like this yourself. :)

yay! i signed up for swap-bot as i thought i was going to be getting to MAKE stuff....every swap i have done so far has been no handmade, no handmade. lol.

sure store bought cards are easy (if you are not constantly broke like me) but where's the fun in buying a card that a million other people have bought and sent out?

kerrydwynn 08/24/2012 #

I LOVE getting handmade, creative postcards from swappers -- we are a special breed! ;-)

I went to the Post Office and they refused the postcards because they were 3X5 inches. Apparently you have to have 3.5X5 inches now. So, I put them in an envelope and mailed them. I hope that's okay. I know it doesn't meet the guidelines, but I didn't feel I had much choice in the matter. :-(

Postcard info is available on the USPS site:

You may think that your mailpiece is a "postcard," because it is a single sheet of paper. But to qualify for mailing at the First-Class Mail postcard price, it must be:

Rectangular At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick No more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick

If your mailpiece does not meet the dimensions above, then the Postal Service considers it a letter and letter-size postage is charged.

Next time, just stick a first class stamp on it and put in a drop box. :)

If you put your own stamp on it (32 cents) and drop it off, I have yet to have a problem. I've made 3x5 and 4x6 cards for years and sent them without problem but I never have a post office employee stamp my cards. I buy my stamps and put them on myself.

I bought some pre-stamped postcards from the Post Office. I took them home and measured them. They were 3 X 5. So, I made mine that size. When I took them to the Post Office to buy stamps, the lady at the post office said they had to be 3.5 X 5 inches minimum, and she wouldn't accept them. I was a little upset because they were the exact same size as the post cards I had bought (from the same lady!) just the week before!!

Hey there everyone!

I had a work project come up and had been extremely busy the past week. The cards will be going out within the next day or two, but they probably won't be mailed until Tuesday (because of the holiday).

I'm really sorry for the delay, but the project is done with and this won't be a future issue.

wow I am surprised to see 6 participants mailed out late including the coordinator. I thought the deadline was the deadline not a guideline.

I get 1 person being late with mailing like the above poster, but 6?? really? what a shame.

swellmomma 09/16/2012 #

I point it out as here we are 16 days since the deadline and I still have not received 1 of the cards. So I am assuming it was sent by one of the people that mailed late. And I am sure there are others still waiting too for the same reasons.
