Description:

As Halloween approaches, I thought it was time to get in the "spirit" of things. A year or so ago, I participated in a photo swap for graveyard photos and enjoyed taking the pictures.

For this swap you will take 5 photos and send to your partner, (more if you just can't choose!) but atleast 5. One picture must be of a church, and one must be a graveyard, the other three can be either one.

Now for the real kicker. The church photos can not be of new brick plain old churches. Find something with some character, such as old structure, beautiful stained glass, or something unique and beautiful about the church. (example: there is a brick church here, but it has columns in the front, a curved front to the church and I think it's called a cupola on top. To me, that is acceptable.) The graveyard photos.....I love unique headstones, decorations, angels and such. If it has beautiful carvings, foreign names ect, it fits the bill. Please, no pictures of old worn down, completely unreadable or unrecognizable stones. The point is to see the images, names, carvings and decorations. The photos can be sent loose, in a sleeve, or if you are feeling froggy, you can make/decorate an album to send them in.

When sending, please include a note about the church and graveyard. Such as location, age or some historical fact if you can.

No newbies for this one, well filed out profiles are a must. No recent 1's or 3's please, and I do check on them. I am giving this swap a long date to give everyone plenty of time to take their photos and choose which ones to send.

Do they have to be photos from a local cemetery? I have some great ones from a recent trip to England!

gagirl828 09/ 7/2012 #

@its4donna it does not have to be local

Recently visited Savannah, Georgia and got some lovely pictures in Bonaventure Cemetery. Also took some photos of beautiful churches in Charleston, SC - also known as the "Holy City" due to the number of churches there. Having fun selecting the photos to send for this swap!

@gagagirl828 - I was out there visiting my son who just graduated from the Navy's nuclear power school. He's now home for a week (returns Saturday) and when he is done with grad hold (the period of time between power school and prototype), will be heading up to Balston Spa, New York, to work with functioning nuclear submarines. My daughter is stationed in Augusta, though, so maybe we'll have to make another trip out there. I'd love to spend more time at Bonaventure (actually missed our scheduled flight because of our little detour to the cemetery! Luckily, we were able to get on a standby flight and make our connection!). The historic area of the cemetery is simply beautiful! Amazing sculptures amid the Spanish moss.

sigh @ scuslidge i hope you get to come back and enjoy a longer stay. i love the spanish moss, wish we had more here. we dont get to see it until we are closer to the florida line.

This is an awesome swap. I went out one day taking pictures of churches (I wanted a series of old to new churches for my collection) and graveyards in Yazoo County, MS. I've made my selection and taking them in for reprints. Woohoo!!

I really hate this but due to a personal appointment, must drop from swap....

There is a website I belong to and it is called Find a Grave. You join and if there is someone trying to get a photo of a particular grave site for ancestry reasons they will send you an email if the cemetery is within your area. It is fun and being an ancestry junkie I found family members I never knew were mine. Google it.

I love photography and even blog on Instagram. But I recently bought a new iPhone and I didn’t know how to work with photos in this device. So I decided to learn more about view photos in icloud since I became a new Apple user. Thanks to the article, I understood how to upload photos and now I can easily work with them on Instagram.
