Description:

This is a swap series, there will be at least four items (possibly more depending on how popular the series becomes).

Sorry for the delay between the 1st swap and this one, had some serious family stuff going on. EDITED to add the "Scientific Curiousity" as the 5th in the swap series list.

There have been other curiousity Cabinet swaps which have had specific themes, but the only theme of this is a "General Cabinet of Curiosities" - along with the specific item for each swap.

  • Medicine Bottle (already done)
  • Mythical Creature (this swap)
  • Powerful Object
  • Sender's choice Curiousity (3D object)
  • Scientific Curiousity

The wiki definition lists "A cabinet of curiosities was an encyclopedic collection in Renaissance Europe of types of objects whose categorical boundaries were yet to be defined."

I have a Cabinet of Curiosities myself, I'd best be described as a steampunk and I am obsessed with Medical History (Victorian and Edwardian Medical and Scientific Ephemera) so mine is based around those themes - but yours may be different! Make sure you have plenty of clues on your profile to guide your swap partner. It is sender's choice on item design, colours, appearance etc but always nice to be guided by your partner's profile :)

For this swap you'll make a Mythical Creature. Your item should be 3D (i.e. not flat) and at least 2" tall. It would be good to check with your swap partner if they have a certain sized space to fit it into (i.e. they might not have room for a 15" tall Cthulhu!) - though you don't have to.

Please bear in mind customs regulations for what you're allowed to actually ship internationally and domestically.

Your Mythical Creature can represent aspects of a real or imaginary creature, perhaps one with magical powers!

Remember to wrap your creature well!

You'll need 5 type 3 rated swaps under your belt and a rating of 4.9. If you're a newbie or don't fulfill these criteria - message me and I'll see what I can do - I'm happy to do private swaps to help newbies build up ratings.

I will be checking profiles (make sure your profile is well filled out - if I don't have to scroll down to read it all - it's not enough, too-short-a-profile makes me worry!) and I will angel (though sure hope it never comes to that!)

Hi! This seems jolly interesting, I am looking forward to getting going with it, thanks for letting me in despite my noob status..

Any suggestions as to websites where I could find examples of Mythical Creatures? Would an amigurumi be too cutesy?

ixykix 10/ 2/2012 #

@HappyCrafter - I think it depends on how you use the technique, a traditional amigurumi might be a bit on the cutesy side as you say.

an amigurumi cthulu would probably be made of win however

@tiff I agree!
