US and Canada only, please! For this swap, you will take one or more articles of clothing or other fabric items and sew it/them into something else for your partner. This can be clothing that you have either acquired from a thrift store or salvaged from around the house. You may use new notions, trim, accents, etc. but the bulk of the item has to be from repurposed fabric. I am thinking for most people this will mean making just one item, but you can also choose to make two or more small things instead of one large project if you prefer. Some ideas I had were a simple tote bag, zippered pouch, lunch sack, stuffie, needlebook, or pincushion, but the sky is the limit. You can find hundreds of ideas on the Internet if you are stuck! Try searching for "recycled fabric crafts" or something like that. To try to keep things fair, try to keep your time spent on this to about 2-4 hours, the lower end if you are a really good seamstress, and the higher end if you are newer and things take you a bit longer. I have left a ton of time between sign-up and due date to get this done. I was thinking that maybe if people have strong preferences as to what they would rather not get, they can list them below, but otherwise the choice of what to make is up to the sender, guided in part by their partner's profile. I would rather not have people asking for specific items as this really limits the sender's creativity... I would suggest finding out when your local thrift stores have their sale days. Most stores have a 99¢ or 50% off one color tag day every week. This is the best time to go! Please do a "sniff test" of any clothes you thrift. "Goodwill funk" is normal and washes out, but heavy cigarette or perfume odors don't always wash out. It is best to just throw the clothing in the wash before you start cutting it up if you can. Swappers must have a 4.5 to join with no recent no-sends, newbies are allowed with a fully filled-out profile if they contact me first. |
