This swap is for Crocheters only....no knitters this time...SORRY!!!

Also, due to high postage costs, this is a USA swap only.....SORRY AGAIN:(((

I hosted this swap way back in 2010 and it was so much fun and I received so many beautiful grannies, so I thought HEY.....let's swap some rainbows again!!!

HERE'S WHAT YA DO!!! You will send two 7" basic traditional granny squares to each of your assigned partners. Now everyone will have 5 partners so you will be mailing out a total of 10 grannies, 2 to each partner....got it???

IMPORTANT!!! Each granny must be made using the basic traditional granny square pattern which can be found HERE. Also, you MUST use a 4-ply worsted weight acrylic yarn. DO NOT use cotton or wool for these squares and DO NOT use anything lighter than 4-ply. Also, you must use a different color yarn for each round so that each granny will have a rainbow of colors:) So, according to this pattern, each granny should have 5 rounds (depending on how tight or loosely you crochet. You could end up with more or less rounds, just depends on how you crochet:) So for 5 rounds you will be choosing 5 different colors for each granny. These rainbow grannies make such BEAUTIFUL ghans!!! Please measure your squares accurately and make sure that they are no more than 1/8-1/4 of an inch of 7 inches!

RATING REQUIREMENTS: Newbies with a well filled out profile and 5 type 3 swaps with a 5.0 rating are welcome to join in the fun:) All others must have a 4.98 rating with no 3 ratings within the past 3 months and absolutely NO unresolved '1's. If your ratings are anything less than I have described, contact me and I will make a decision as to whether you will be allowed to join this swap. If by some chance you get flaked on this swap, I will gladly angel for you, but if YOU flake I will shout it from the highest mountain top and you will NEVER be allowed in any of my swaps again!!!

If there is enough interest and everything goes alright I plan on repeating this swap indefinately until we all have enough grannies for each of us to make a beautiful Rainbow-ghan and who knows....maybe 2, 3 or 4??? LOL

Watching for now. Need another rating to get in!

Ok, joined. So is kitcheners cottons ok to use or are we using acrylic? Also can we use different shades of the same color in a block?

bettflow09 03/12/2013 #

Yes @MamaMay differnt shades will work fine. As long as there are atleast 5 different colors in each square, different color for each round.

The only yarn that should be used for these grannies is 4-ply acrylic worsted weight like red heart or similar yarn. The reason for this is that we want all of the grannies to be of the same weight so they will all work nicely together in our ghans and also you don't want to mix fibers such as wool, cotton, alpaca, etc because different fiber has different washing instructions and also cotton shrinks much more than the other yarns.

I'd like to suggest that black not be used in the rounds as most people like to edge their squares in black to join.

Momskii 03/19/2013 #

I joined one of these before and I joined mine with aran (which is a soft white, very lt beige) It came out beautiful and I always get so many nice comments. this one will be for Mom.

bettflow09 03/21/2013 #

Yes @institches that is a great suggestion, although I am not going to insist that there be no black used, it would be best if black not be used within the granny, or when partners are assigned if are thinking about using black you might consider asking your partner if she will be ok with black. Thanks @instiches

@Momskii ...sounds wonderful:))) Aran makes a very pretty background for any granny-ghan:) I have used many different colors to join with, but black and aran are my favorite. I love them both!!!

MamaMay 03/25/2013 #

I connected my last one in light gray. I personally think we should just avoid neutral colors in the white through black range. Whomever are my partners, please send me vomit inducing color combinations! If you can! I will love all though! I don't care if someone used a neutral color so long as said color is not the outermost row. Gives me more freedom as to what to connect with.

Just checking for sure that you want 7 inch squares, the pattern is for 6 inch.....of course we could add on until it is 7 inches, I just want to make sure.

Deeno1105 03/31/2013 #

YIKES..........I missed that too. I've made five 6" squares. Gotta add another round.

bettflow09 04/ 1/2013 #

Oh yea....sorry about that yall!!! Yes, the grannies should be 7", but the pattern is for a 6" granny. So basically just how ever many rounds makes a 7" square for you is what we are looking for here. But use the old fashioned traditional granny pattern and different color for each round, with no color being used more than one round. Hope this makes it clearer for everyone:)))

Can we use rainbow yarn? I have a lot of "scrap" rainbow yarn. Would it be okay to use that in a round or does it have to be a solid color?

mermaidery 05/10/2013 #

I made 7 tags to put on my squares for this and another swap - I have one tag left. Uhm. If you get a blue/green and Pink/purple squares from NJ without a tag, its mine. Im so very sorry. I have no idea what person I forgot to put in the tag with the swap info / my name :[
