Description:

Let's try something new! For this swap, participants will be creating a specific type of Mail Art--a shaped envelope! You can send ANY shape--sender's choice. You might choose to send a heart, a fish, a flower, an animal--anything you choose.

There are some wonderful templates available on the internet. As far as which shapes are best, opt for something WITHOUT a lot of thin appendages--for instance choose a turtle instead of an octopus!

Feel free to embellish your shape with markers, collage, stickers, or any other technique you would employ in your typical mail art creations. Also please make sure your envelope is sealed (glue, stitching) all the way around.

Remember that your mail art envelope should be addressed and MAILED! Please don't seal your beautiful creation in a plain envelope and mail it that way.

Requirements:

  • 1 mail art shaped-envelope to 1 partner

  • envelope shape must measure AT LEAST 4" x 5"

  • enclose a flat surprise for your partner--this is sender's choice--but please avoid edibles, religious themes, or anything gory.

Participants must have a cumulative rating of 4.9 and be rated for 10 Type 3 swaps.

If any participant does NOT receive their shaped envie, I will gladly angel for this swap.

Question: has anyone sent these envelopes before?? I am practicing with different templates I have found online and my husband says: these odd shapes might be rejected by the postal services. I'd hate my envelope getting lost or damaged by the sorting machines.

Anyone got any links to ideas. I am struggling to make something. mine is more a box than an envie.

If you pay 20 cents more, you can request the post office to "hand cancel" or "do not machine".

Thanks @JavaJunkie I'll ask :-)

Just a few weeks ago, i sent a fish shaped envie to Finland and it made it fine. My partner says the customs paper peeled off easy too, not damaging the work underneath it.
