Description:

A slam is a booklet similar to a deco or friendship book except that each page will have a question on it, and each signer will answer the question. It gets sent from swapper to swapper until it is full, then it is sent back to the person who it was made for.

For this swap you will make 3 new slams to send to your partner. You can make the slams for yourself (so the slam is returned to you when it's full) or you can make the slams for any slam swapping friends you have!

The slams for this first swap can be any theme or style (question, sign if, list etc). Please do your very best and make it a nice slam that people will enjoy to fill in. Slams for this swap must be no larger than 6" x 8".

This swap is open to seasoned slam swappers AND to those who have never created or swapped slams before. But please remember that slams are meant to be passed on, so you will need to pass on the slams you receive in this swap. I will be hosting slam swaps every month on Swap-Bot, so if you don't have any other slam swapper friends to pass them on to quickly, please keep joining in my swaps to keep the slams moving around!

Here is a good explanation on how to make and swap slams:
How to make and swap slams
(This website suggests using spiral notebooks. But I find they are bulky to send, so for this swap please don't create spiral bound slams. Please only create stapled or stitched slams for this swap.)

Swappers must have no recent 1's or 3's and a well filled out profile. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and I will do my best in answering them promptly!

Happy swapping!

So excited for this swap. Starting my book now!

What do you mean by 3 slams? I'm sorry, never made one before.

Neeky8 03/30/2013 #

Hi craftymissy, for this swap you need to make 3 different slams. So you'll make one, then you'll make another, and then you'll make a third, so you will have three separate booklets in total. You will then mail these three to your partner.

Here is a link on how you can make slams:

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you need any other info!

I have a few questions...I am new to slams. I just completed my first ones this past weekend...What is an appropriate amount of pages/questions for a decent slam? Should every slam book have a totally different set of questions? Do we set a limit of signers like we do for LB's or sticker bags?

Neeky8 04/ 3/2013 #

Hi @Cauti92 There's no set rules for the amount of pages, but I would suggest at least 6-12 with questions both sides. The shortest slam I've seen was 3 questions and to me, that's just too short! Most slams seem to have at least 10 questions. It's best to use different questions, just to keep it unique and so the signers don't feel like they're answering the same question over and over. A good idea is to create a themed slam, where all the questions can relate to one theme (Like hobbies, movies, food, etc). And as for limiting the signers, most slams just have one sign in page for address labels. Address label are often all different sizes so it would be difficult to put numbers on the sign in page. Usually the labels are just placed where there is room and when there's no room left, it's full and sent back to the person it was made for. If you allocate more than one page for labels it will take too long for the slam to be full (years!) and returned to the owner, so it's best to just limit the signs in's to one page only.
I hope that helps!! :)

Thank you for such a well explained answer!!! Thank you!!! I'm joining!!! I can't wait to get started on my books!!!

I really want to join but never done this before. I found a A5 little booklet in one of my shops. It has about 30 pages in it. Will this do?? and how many questions do you need to do? do you put the questions at the top of each page? Thanks for any help you can give me .

Can we send extra slams? I got hooked!!! :-)

Neeky8 04/12/2013 #

Hi @cupcakelovesyou - Slams can be any size, so yes you can use any book or make any sized booklet. Just consider the cost of postage though, as thicker books will cost a bit more to send. If you want to make you're own, just trim your pages (copy paper is fine!) to the size you want and staple them together. Create a nice cover for the front, often these are decorated, showing the person's details of who it was made for.

Questions - yes, please write these at the top of each page.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

@Cauti92 - I'm so pleased that you've been enjoying making them!! Once partners are assigned, I would contact your partner to see if they would like extra slams. If you're partner is me, you're more than welcome to send extras!
