Description:

For this swap, you will create an altered journal (or junk journal if you want) for your swap partner.

Your journal should be at least 5x7 (you can go bigger) and be altered with vintage ephemera. You may use reproduction ephemera (check the forum for a list of resources) but it must be clear and good quality (no blurry images). Also appropriate stickers, lace, washi tape, trinkets, hardware, notions, book pages, etc - whatever strikes your fancy, so long as the end result is something you'd be proud to show off and your swap partner will surely cherish.

(If you own vintage or antique ephemera you love but can't part with, you may photocopy it to use with swaps like this.)

Journals - whether store-bought or entirely hand-crafted - should have at least 20 pages. Please spend some time on decorating not just the exterior front and back covers but also at least 5 pages inside the journal. You may use whatever medium and resources fit your theme, but I would suggest checking your partner's profile for inspiration.

You do not have to send anything in addition to the journal except a personal note to your partner with this swap.

Nothing creepy, gory, weird, smelly, dirty, grungy or religious. I'm allocating 6 weeks for this swap to give everyone lots of time to complete a beautiful project.

I signed up for this swap however am finding the directions confusing. The journal has 20 pages but we decorate only 5 plus front and back cover?

Sorry about the confusion. What I meant was the following:

  • The journal must have AT LEAST 20 pages. It can have more.

  • You must decorate the front and back covers of the journal.

  • Inside the journal, you must decorate AT LEAST 5 pages; you can decorate more.

This is to allow someone to use/send a journal that has, say, tons of pages but not have to decorate every single page inside the journal.

I hope this makes more sense now :)

Is it 20 pages front and back ? or 20 pages - that gives 40 front and back?

I have a similar question. I made a beautiful lunch bag journal that I would love to swap, but it is not 20 individual pages. However, there are fold-out pages and tag inserts, etc. so if these count it would be close.

gillman - the 20 page count refers to a store-bought journal. For hand-made journals such as what you refer to (or junk journals as well), you don't have to have an exact count of 20 since the entire journal will have been hand-made and that obviously is more than enough.

I would have loved to have taken part in this swap, but it's regional :(

Sorry, katiewoo, but I'm afraid that a lot of people would've been unable or unwilling to send a whole journal to an international swapper. I'll be hosting another swap for a journal page soon enough, though, and we'll definitely make that international.
