CRAZY HUGE POSTCARD SWAP!!!
Swap Coordinator:KamKat (contact)
Swap categories: Postcards
Number of people in swap:10
Location:Regional - USA ONLY
Type:Type 3: Package or craft
Last day to signup/drop:October 26, 2013
Date items must be sent by:November 4, 2013
Number of swap partners:10
Description:

This is a VERY time consuming swap, therefore don't join if you don't have time to complete it.

No newbies, sorry. Must have at least 30 rated type 2 and 3 swaps. I reserve the right to ban ANYONE I feel may be a questionable swapper. You must have logged in three days before I assign partners, or I will ban you. Also, this is NOT a profile specific swap; therefore don't join if you won't be happy with something not based on your profile.

I did a swap like this once on a different website and absolutely loved it. It was cheaper than sending every person a card, but you still got a card from everyone. I am going to try it on here to see how it goes. So here it is:

After the sign up date, I will check profiles and change the number of partners to however many participants are in the swap (therefore, everyone gets a card from each person). In my previous swap of this type, we had 40 participants from 38 different states (it was so much fun!)

You will have ONE WEEK to send however many postcards there ends up being in an envelope to me, with a pre-postaged envelope addressed to yourself. It should cost the same amount it cost you to send it to me, to send it back to you. (NOTE: If you have family coming in, your going to get sick, or your going to lose your mail during that week, please don't join. It is a time consuming swap!)

On the back of EACH and EVERY POSTCARD, write the Swap name, your Swap-Bot user name, and a short message (can be a quote, about yourself, story, about the postcard, anything). PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THESE PROFILE SPECIFIC (that would make my job much harder)! If you fail to do this, it should result in a 3 rating. This is NOT a blank postcard swap. The postcards you send should have something to do with where you live and should be store-bought ONLY.

UPDATE: Due to popular consensus, I will allow two kinds of postcards instead of one. It might be hard for some to find 20 of the same card. Therefore, if you can find 15 of one and five of another that is fine. Previous rule was "Also, please make sure to buy however many of the EXACT SAME POSTCARD! Therefore, if you are doing a map card, buy all of the same map card. I donรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt want to have to choose who gets a flower postcard in their envelope and who gets a view card. They should all be the same."

Also, NO over-sized postcards!!! They must fit in everyoneรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs envelope.

I will allow three weeks for all the postcards to arrive and over the week of Thanksgiving break, I will give each person a postcard from each participant and send the pre-addressed envelopes in the mail. INTERNATIONAL SWAPPERS: This is regional right now, but I am very interested in doing an international swap, if you are interested in one please message me and I might try to host one after this one (if it goes well of course).

When you receive your envelope back, you will have one postcard from each person in the swap. You will then go through each postcard and rate the other participants (5 if you got a postcard and it met all requirements. 3 if you received a postcard and it did not meet requirements, and if I failed to receive the card in time and you didnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt received it should result in a 1).

Any questions? Comment or message me!

Lastly, this will be a super time consuming swap for me and it will require a bit of trust on your part. If you have any questions you would like to ask, just message me. I usually am on here daily, but at least every other day. Also, I will NOT be participating in any other swaps around this time that way I have plenty of time to host this one.

Let's have some fun!

UPDATE: I have been informed that there is a limit to how many swap participants you can have in a swap. Therefore, when/if the swap gets up to 20 participants I will check profiles and close the swap. Also, just in case if there is not a lot of interest in the swap, I believe the swap would be worth it as long as at least 3-5 people sign up (46 cents X2= 92 Cents, 33 cents X3 = 99 cents). If there are any other questions or concerns, please let me know.

There's a few things wrong with this swap. Even though there's a lot required -it's still a postcard swap which is a type 2 swap. Aside from that though...the limit of partners is 20 for any swap. There isn't a way to alter it above that.

It's a bit involved and having just hosted a mega postcard swap (even with 6 years of hosting experience here -and knowing how flakers are) ...it already is going to have a major problem so I can't imagine the problems you'll have with this type of swap. Do as you will but consider this a very polite heads up that this is probably going to be a disaster.

I started to post it on a forum first to see if it would be a good idea on this particular site and thought I would just go for it. Hindsight: Maybe should have done that first, as I did not realize the maximum was 20 participants. I appreciate your concern and honestly hope it is not a disaster. As I stated above, I have participated in a huge swap like this before on another site and it was a big success. I realize that Swap-bot may not be perfect for this swap, but I thought I would give it a try. I can definitely see how this would look insane to people who have never done a swap like this before (I was worried when I did my first one). To accommodate for the 20 participant swap limit, I guess I will limit the swap to only 20 participants... (I did not see anything in the rules against that, if there is, please let me know and I will just have to close it). Thank you for your comment @VivaLaDiane I have read a lot of your posts and I know how hard you work for the SB community!

I've done this type of swap many, many times. Just never on a structured site like swapbot. It's the way I swapped before S-B. it's a LOT if work for the hostess but does save a ton in postage. I don't see why it can't work here except the partner limit which has changed. And there's no reason why this can't be a type three. Type three can be for packages and I agree that 30 PCs is enough to qualify as a package.

This designation exists because it shows others that you have the responsibility to follow through on a large dollar or time intensive swap. This certainly qualifies. Even at 50c each, this swap is worth $10. Far more than most type 2 swaps. We have to look at the spirit of the types when coming up with which is most appropriate. Not everything flat automatically goes in that category.

Several years ago, at least half of the ATC swaps were listed as type 2. I kinda went on a campaign commenting on all the ATC swaps I could find leaving a link to Rachel's original comments when she created the types mentioning that anything crafted like ATCs could be a type 3. Finally it has changed!

KamKat 10/ 4/2013 #

@thebragal that is why I chose it as a type 3 swap in the first place... I thought that if it cost over a few dollars and it was time intensive it was a type 3, therefore I have changed it back to type 3. Thank you for your comments and encouragement:) I really hope this swap will be a success.

I'm looking forward to it! What was the name of the other swap site you mentioned? Would like to check it out! Always on the look out for other swap sites!

needlewings 10/ 4/2013 #

With my luck, I would find only 18 of any one post card for 20 people. I will have to think about this one.

KamKat 10/ 5/2013 #

@crimsonrivulet I am so glad to have you in my swap:) it was www.atlasquest.com/ but I cannot find enough active member to swap on there anymore:( Its gone down in popularity for the past few years...

@needlewings I understand, sometimes it can be hard to find that many of the same postcard, however I don't want to worry about having a bias when I distribute the cards and that is the easiest way I can think to do it. I would love to have you in the swap if you do decide to join!

craftchallenged 10/ 5/2013 #

I also am not sure I can find 20 of the same post card. I will have to check my local store. I have put this on watchlist and will sign up if i find 20 of the same. Would you allow two kinds? Only you will know if you got all the same or different. Don't make dealing the cards out to twenty piles a big process. Each person gets what they get - done.

KamKat 10/ 5/2013 #

@craftschallenged You bring up a very good point. I think two kinds would be okay, maybe ten of each and like you said, they get what they get... I will update the rules. Thank you for your suggestion.

craftchallenged 10/16/2013 #

As it turns out I was able to get 20 of the same card. I hope we do get 20 swappers! Really looking forward to this swap!!!

KamKat 10/17/2013 #

@craftchallenged that's great! I hope we get 20 participants too! We have quite a few watchers, so hopefully some of them will join before the deadline.

N1ght0wl21 10/21/2013 #

I'm close to the requirements but not quite there. I'm hoping I'll have enough ratings by the deadline to join.

user2637 10/22/2013 #

Is there a rating requirement on this? I don't see one.

KamKat 10/23/2013 #

I do not have an exact rating requirement. Of course, if someone has a one that is not commented on or trying to get resolved they will be banned. You must have must have at least 30 rated type 2 and 3 swaps. I did not do an exact rating requirement because on the forums I have seen people with like 20 ones have a higher rating than me! So, I will be carefully checking profiles for any thing suspicious.

JipSea 10/25/2013 #

I've got twenty. Hope this works. :-)
