Description:

Let's make a matchbox craft for the Christmas holiday! Anyone can join this swap even if you don't observe Christmas but observe it by another name..Yule, Winter Solstice, "just another day". It doesn't have to be a Santa or Christmas Tree theme ... you can use a snow theme or red/gold color theme or any other theme you see around this time of year. The only requirement is that it has to be festive and fun...unless you're doing a "Grinch" theme. ha ha! And it still has to be fun even if he is a ... grinch!

Your matchbox can be a single matchbox or you can do a matchbox set of drawers. I've even seen multiple matchboxes made into a Christmas tree form! That would be adventurous but feel free to make one if you're feeling so inclined. Some crafters use actual matchboxes as their base. But you are welcome to make your own. Rachel has a matchbox template here if you'd like to use her template. I've used it and it's super easy to do. :)

The requirement for this swap is a minimum of one matchbox. You can make this into a drawer that slides out with little goodies inside. Or you can create a matchbox "scene" - a picture is seen when you slide the drawer open or "unfold" the top of the matchbox. I'd love to see some made into an Ornament! Please check out flickr and search for "Christmas matchboxes". Or you can just click here and hopefully matchboxes will appear before your eyes. You will see a plethora of beautiful matchboxes in all sorts of styles.

When you mail this matchbox, please do not mail it simply in an envelope where the box can get smashed. You must package it in a way that the matchbox will arrive intact. Some people put these in a harder box or container and send in a bubble envelope. Others simply mail a small box which contains the matchbox within. However you mail it, just be sure it is protected and your partner receives your beautiful creation the way you created it.

This swap is open to swappers with a minimum of 10 Type 3 rated swaps. This is a USA Swap, but I have an International one also. I do check Profiles and if you have any 1s that can be fulfilled, please do those first before signing up for this swap. I do angel my swaps, so swap with confidence!

Also, you will have 2 weeks to sign up for this swap, but I've only allowed a week after the signup deadline to mail your swap in the hopes that many of us will receive our swaps before Christmas. Consider starting your matchbox during these signup days so that you'll have your matchbox ready to mail when assignments are made. But if you're a last minute wonder, you can create your matchbox after assignments are made. Just be aware there is only 1 week before it must be mailed.

Any questions or comments, feel free to PM or join the Discussion below.

Let's swap a little fun in a matchbox!

Thank you @racheljohnson for the use of your photo of matchboxes you created for a Christmas Matchbox swap!

I found a template for a larger matchbox featured on the Swap-bot blog here if you are interested. One could fit a small gift inside this!

This is just another idea you can use for a matchbox. You do not have to use this 250-count size matchbox. The requirement for this swap is the smaller 32-count matchbox size, like Rachel's template here.

I haven't done one of these in ages and I have missed them. I recently gave away my collection of matchboxes (I had 80) to a sick friend who just adored them. All were still filled with surprises. I'm looking forward to this swap!
