Description:

Ok, I've been thinking what type of swap to do next. And thanks to the discussions in the board, I've decided to do this one. :-)

I would really like it if we could get total group participation since there is a LOT of freedom to do what you want.

For this swap challlenge, you will be upcycling recyclable plastic into something totally different.

Please check your partners profile for things they do not like. Since there is so much freedom in this swap, there is -no- reason why you cannot make something that is not on their dislike list.

Other than that - the options are almost endless!!! Below is nothing but a list of ideas to get you started. You can further google search to find even more ideas.

zippered containers

jewelry

upcycled skrinky dink jewelry

icicles

decorative cloche

light fixture

rather than throw out the soda bottle bottoms - you can use them to make mini scenes / mini fairy gardens / or something like this

bracelets

Now, some plastic bottle crafts quite simple, like the icicles, and yet others are labor intensive, like some of the jewelry. So, keep this in mind. If you are going to make a simple one, please make sure to make it something you personally would like to receive as a gift!

For example, would you be happy receiving 1 icicle as a present? No - therefore do not send 1 icicle. If you are going to make those, please send at least 20, if not more. After all they are simple, easy and require very little effort at all.

On the other end of that spectrum, think of some of the more time consuming projects. Plastic bottles upcycled into beads and made into a piece of jewelry. Not only are the beads made one at a time, but they are then made into a piece of jewelry.

So, please keep this in mind. Considering we have a group of highly rated swappers, I'm hoping everyone will end up with something they like.

Now for a bonus! :-)

The person who makes something that looks the least like what it started as will receive an upcycled plastic piece of jewelry from me. :-) So, who's in?

Hi, Marie, I want to make sure I'm clear on what kind of plastic we can use. I take all of my recycleables to a local recycle station, and they consider both rigid plastic and bottles recycleable. It sounds like you mean only bottles for this swap, is that right? Thanks!

ABackwoodsLife 01/11/2014 #

@TereDiane1954 Not necessarily just bottles, as the easiest items to find 6 recyclable plastic on are the take out food clear lids and the clear plastic lids for the large disposable roasting pans. Any plastic that you would throw out that has the recycle symbol on is good. Disposable containers (ex: butter tub, take out food, cool whip, sour cream, etc) Bottles (ex: soda, water, laundry soap, hand soap bottle, etc) Things like that. :-) did that help?

TereDiane1954 01/11/2014 #

Yeah. I Got all excited and went to my craft room and made something really cool, but I just looked and it doesn't have the symbol on it. :( So I will find something else. I can keep what I made for myself. I used a plastic CD case.

Thank you for your answer!

TereDiane1954 01/11/2014 #

Okay, I found something else to do :)

Awwww, I'm sorry @TereDiame1954 I'm glad you found something else though.

I was going to join this swap, but I am in a TON of them already (!) and I recycle all of my plastics and return all of my bottles, so I don't have anything on hand.:(

I do think it's a fantastic idea, though-especially for areas without returnable bottle laws or extensive recycling programs! :D

@RadicalRwcrafter lol I know that feeling! Aside from having my dashboard loaded, I believe I have 30-40+ in my watching list eagerly awaiting for a current to be sent out. Lol! Thank you! Maybe we'll see you in the next group challenge. :-)
