Description:

This is the Second reading log swap of 2014! It's pretty simple. Read. Write about what you read. Send your log off to two international partners.

You'll be sending your partners one reading log that contains your thoughts on all the books you read during the months of April, May and June of 2014. The log can be in any paper format.

You need to jot down the title, the author and give a minimum of a one paragraph description about each book and your thoughts.

Feel free to include things like favorite quotes, the author's Web site, etc.

This swap is about what you enjoy reading, not what your partners may or may not like. It doesn't matter what you read: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, Manga, zines, audio books, e-books, children's, etc.

I recommend keeping a computer file for your log so it will be easy for your partners to read and so you won't lose it, but your log can be created in ANY format you like. It needs to be paper and mailed via post. The format is up to you: journal, letter, zine, tag book, etc.

The details:

a) international (sent via the post, NOT e-mailed)

b) two partners

c) minimum requirements: one book each month; one paragraph per book. Author, title, description/thoughts etc.

Voracious readers read more than a single book a month. So there's no maximum. Your reading log should be sent NO earlier than the 15th of June.

The fine print:

Newbies welcome. Rated players need a 4.8 or higher. If you are under the requirement PM me and I will take it as a case by case. No recent "1" or "3" ratings. All participants must have a completed profile. I ban after the swap closes. As both a swap participant and coordinator, I like people to have positive swap experiences, so please no forum drama.

Hopefully we won't need to, but I will arrange for angels if they are needed.

Love this idea, can't you do one just for the USA???????????????

kgeslab 04/ 5/2014 #

No, don't cut out international!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whytewillow 04/ 8/2014 #

I would like one for US as well. Not to leave out international, but in addition to the international swap.

Personally, I don't think with only 2 partners and this being a flat mail / letter swap it being an international swap is a problem. In all the years I've been doing this swap, even with very long reading logs I've never paid over the 1 once postage. So about $1.50 or something.

International makes it more interesting to me. $1.15 is the base international rate from US (don't know about any other countries), which is not quite 3x the domestic rate.

On a related note, I read a story on the BBC news site today about a woman who read a book from every country in the world. Her list is here (list of recommendations she received, more than the 196 books she read):

http://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/

So if you want to broaden your reading, take a look.

(i can't track down the article i read - pretty sure it was at BBC but search is not turning it up)

Oh wait, I thought this was the "map your reading" swap (where you mark the primary locations of the books you've read on a map) - sorry for the out of context comment above!

Will be assigning partners tonight or tomorrow!

I am a voracious reader, usually about two books a week. I'm currently reading a young adult series with 12 books (I'm on book 8). I don't want to bore my partners with 12 paragraphs about the same characters, but I also don't want to leave them hanging. The series is very popular, so I usually have to read something else while I wait for the next book to become available. Any suggestions for how to handle the series?

Penelope

Hi Penelope! When reading a series I usually group the whole series together in a row and then write one paragraph(s) about the series as a whole.

Gosh I'll have to hand write mine due to lack of printer and I'm already at 22 books :O

CayleighTheShell 06/ 2/2014 #

Or maybe you could type it and print it at the library or something?

CayleighTheShell 06/26/2014 #

New swap for Q3 will be up this weekend!

@cayleightheshell nearest library is 35 minutes drive away, time to flex my fingers! :D

smadronia 07/ 1/2014 #

I'm hoping this quarter's books won't take 18 pages.
