Description:

A prayer flag is a colorful, usually rectangular-ish cloth often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks in the Himalayas. They are used to bless people, circumstances and the surrounding countryside.

Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle. They can be used in your home or yard to help you to be mindful and grateful.

Here is a link to a Pinterest Board of mine that has over 100 ideas for prayer flags. Prayer Flags on Pinterest

You DO NOT "have" to do any sewing or stitching at all on your prayer flags, they could be completely painted, or inked, or whatevered....on a piece of fabric , or you could do a combination of several techniques. It does not need to have any hems but can if you want it to. There is no need to put any type of ribbon or other way to hang it ....each person will decide for themselves how they want to string them up together or hang them.

There will be two partners so I would suggest that you create three so that you have one to keep for yourself. Each flag should be "roughly" 5 x 7 and rectangular-ish .

I would love to make this an on-going swap until we all have a large collection so hopefully there will be a lot of interest! I would like to make it a monthly swap.

If I have forgotten anything or not been clear, speak up and we will fix it together! :-)
