Description:

Put a bird on it!

For this swap, you will send your partner one handmade flat item with a bird on it. Simple, right? Not so fast, friend. Many of us here on swap bot are very talented artists who like to produce multi-layered, multi-dimensional pieces with lots of fancy stuff. That’s fantastic most of the time, but not for this swap. We’re aiming for beautiful simplicity. Your item for this swap should be a simple, somewhat minimal expression.

Examples of items to swap include: postcards, notecards, ATCs, bookmarks, decorated envelopes, or whatever you’d like to make as long as it’s flat(ish) and fits in a standard envelope. You can use any materials you like, and the central image of the bird can be drawn, painted, punched/die-cut, or anything else, as long as it’s a bird.

A good item for this swap could be, for example, something like a notecard with a subtle background, a bird as the focal point, and one or two simple embellishments. That’s it. Stop right there, ‘cause you’re done.

Please note that this is not meant to encourage laziness or sticker-slapping, or anything like that. It’s meant to give swappers the opportunity to step back from the expectations of producing super-complex pieces and just focus on creating something simple and beautiful. Of course we all have different definitions of “simple” and “beautiful”, so it will be interesting to see what people come up with. And, also because we have different definitions of “simple” and “beautiful”, please rate a 5 if your partner sent on time and met the minimum requirements.

The condensed version: Create one flat item with a bird on it, done in a “simple” or “minimal” style and mail it to your partner by the deadline. These are flat items, and as such, should be able to go with one 49 cent stamp.

This swap is open anyone with well filled out profile--both newbies and experienced swappers—and no unexplained 1s or 3s in the last six months. I will check profiles and remove anyone with a documented history of flakiness.

I will angel if necessary. Hopefully we’re all grown-ups here and there will be no flakers. Seriously, NO FLAKERS.

Happy swapping!

Such a cute idea, I wish I had time for this one! Hopefully you run it a 2nd time, with a bird or any other theme would be fun, too.

Thank you for the great swap! I have not participated in swaps for quite some time and this was just the perfect one to ease my way back in. I love birds! I appreciate the reminder you sent out too.
