Description:

Let's do it again and let's get LOTS of participation.

For this writing swap, each participant is going to have a role to play!

When you sign up, post below a number between 1 to 350. No two people can post the same number.

Why? Most books are about 350 pages. From whatever novel I am reading when the swap sign-ups close, I will choose a word from each page posted and that will determine the word list for our random short stories. (In the event of landing on articles -- a, and, the -- the next word will go on the list.)

The more people who participate, the longer the word list will be!

The number of people in the swap when sign-ups close will also determine what word I select from each page. For example, if there are 20 people in the swap, I will select the 20th word on every page listed in the comments section. If 34 people participate, I will select the 34th word on every page, etc.

I'll post the word list here in the comment area when partners are assigned.

You will write your short story being sure to use each word on our random list, and then send a copy to two partners.

This is our sixth round of this fun swap. We had 11 people last time. Let's top that!

Let's have some fun in this random word short story challenge swap!

Don't forget to sign up and post your page number below.

It might be fun sometime to do one like this with a random sentence too.

Partners are assigned. I'm reading a cozy mystery and will get the word list out in the a.m.

There are 7 people in the swap and 10 page numbers listed Watchers must have forgotten to join. I'll include the extra ones as bonus words.

Well here's our word list (with a couple of modifications). The book I'm reading is just shy of 300 pages. So I used the 7th word on the last page of the book for the Page 302 entry and Page 198 was blank, so I used the 7th word on the next page.

Here's our list with an extra two bonus words (representing the people who posted page numbers, but didn't actually join the swap):

  • from

  • found

  • covering

  • convention

  • boat

  • little

  • I

Bonus words: (optional use)

  • investigation

  • youth

I'm reading "Huckleberry Finished" by Livia J. Washburn, a humorous cozy mystery.

Happy writing to everyone undertaking the challenge!
