Description:

October is breast cancer awareness month. Everything is pink for awareness!

For this swap, you will send your one partner a package full of pink! It would be great to include something to do with breast cancer awareness, but if you can't find anything, just remember pink is the key! It is really senders choice. Can be pink candles, pink candy, pink paper products, pink anything basically. Just check your partner's profile to see some things they may like. The entire package can also be breast cancer awareness stuff, like the pink ribbon pins, bracelets, etc...

Those including something to do with breast cancer awareness should automatically receive a heart from their partner!

Package should have a minimum of 5 things in it. As I said, can be paper, pink stickers, etc... so the package size is totally up to the sender. If sender has more than 5 items or anything having to do with breast cancer awareness, a heart should be awarded!

I decided to do this swap as a tribute to my mother, whom I lost to the disease in 2006 at the age of 59. I miss her every single day and all women need to be aware of this deadly disease that claims too many women each year! Remember to also make it a point to do a self exam during the month of October and spread the word to everyone to do the same! Stay healthy!

Swap is open to USA only. Must have a rating of at least 4.8 to participate with no no-sends! Newbies welcome with a completely filled out profile. I will check profiles prior to assigning partners and drop anyone that does not meet requirements! If you do not intend to follow the swap time line, then do not sign up. Also, if you do not intend to rate your partner, please do not sign up either.

My Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer last October at the age of 90. She is is now 91 and under Hospice care. She's still doing remarkably well, but the cancer is taking its toll on each of us. Ladies, we are never too young - or too old - to receive that dreaded diagnosis or be touched by someone who has. Since we had no history of breast cancer, I hadn't had a mamo in years. Believe me, I got one right away, and will from now on! Keep up with your check-ups and keep those of us in prayer who are dealing with it now.

Here is a site to help women who can not pay for a mamogram.
www.thebreastcancersite.com It only take a minute to sign in and click. I know a lady who is a 16 year survivor from breast cancer. WhimsyGirl my heart goes out to you and your family.

Whimsygirl: You are so right, you can NEVER be too young or too old...I lost one of my older sisters to breast cancer about seven years ago. She was only 34, and was diagnosed at the age of 30. She left behind 5 children. This year I had the breast cancer gene test done, (which thankfully came back negative) and I always do my self checks. I can't imagine having to leave my family like that.

njgirlkim: thanks so much for hosting a swap like this, great idea!

I'm so glad to find this swap - was thinking of starting one myself. I lost a very good friend and also my mother/law to breast cancer. I'll be walking in our local Race for the Cure next month. I'm honored to be a part of this swap!

I'm glad to have found this swap. My mom was diagnosed just a few weeks ago at age 70. It's been really hard to take, for all of us. I'm happy to spread the word.

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful stories and being glad to have found this swap. It is definitely very close to my heart! I do hope you all enjoy the swap and that everyone remembers October to be Breast Cancer Awareness and spreads the word!

Thanks for hosting this---it's a great way to get the word out, as well as honor those who are battling this disease. I have had both grandmothers diagnosed with this; one is a 19 year survivor and the other has been in heaven for the past 11 years.

Mailed my package today ironically on the same day my best friend is having her surgery.

The encouragement I've received from reading each story, pm's that I've received, preparing my packet for my partner, and the remarkable package I received yesterday from my partner Rollerwriter can't be measured! I think we should do these swaps periodically throughout the year as continual reminders, not just in October. Just whenever one of us thinks of it, let's post a similar swap and I bet will catch the attention of at least 1 new participant every time. If we remind and inform 1 more woman, we've made an impact. What do you think?

AuntieM 10/21/2008 #

great idea whimsygirl. I would definatly participate :)
