Description:

Altoid Tin Traveling Altar

I have been fascinated by this for a while and thought it would be a fun craft to share with others. You do not have to be of any certain religion to enjoy making and receiving these little altars. Please respect each other, and respect what you are sent even if it doesn't correspond to your own beliefs. You can always pass it on to someone else in future swaps.

Note: While many altars you might find have the tins glued open, this is for an altar that can close, so that it is easy to travel with. So even if you make it creative where it is separated in some way please make sure it can be closed for travel and that it's not packed so tightly with items that it won't close.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DECORATE THE OUTSIDE! This is important, you can decorate it if you wish, but you can leave it undecorated and have all the fun be inside!

You can be as creative as you wish to be in this altar, but all traveling altars should have at least SEVEN items inside of them. You can put more, but at least SEVEN. Here's some ideas to include-

  • Symbols, Pictures of a Deity
  • Representations of the Elements (actual items or symbols)
  • Chalice/Cup
  • Small birthday candles
  • Matches
  • LED candle or something similar
  • gemstones
  • special herbs
  • tiny athame
  • seashells
  • smudging supplies
  • wand
  • incense
  • vials
  • God/Goddess Symbols or Statuary
  • tiny besom/broom
  • altar cloth
  • feathers
  • little scroll with a prayer or chant on it

Here's some good links - also pinterest has tons of ideas! This is very popular right now so there are tons of inspirational designs out there.

Hello, we don't have Altoids here in Israel, but I promise to send the closest thing I find to it :)

@Danitium a small tin of any sort will be fine! Make sure you let your partner know in case they don't see your post here.
