Description:

What is a glass drop doll you ask....well it can be any small doll that uses a glass drop face. You want to know what a glass drop face is don't you....well, that's the fun part. I know you've seen them in the craft stores....Micheals carries them, I'm talking about those little net bags of flattend marbles that people use for floral decorations, votive candle decorations, mosaics etc. They are about the size of a penny-nickle, inexpensive, and come in a variety of colors. For this project, the clear ones are perfect, but any of the lighter colors will work as well. Once you have your glass drop, you can start the fun part. Find a small face in a magasine, photo copy, clip art...place the glass drop over it to see how it looks....the glass will magnify the features, small flaws in the drop will make interesting shadows. Once you have found a face that you like, use some clear glue to glue the glass drop ....I've been using Api's pick fabric glue available at Joanns for this with really good results. Once the glue has dried, trim off excess paper. You are now ready to attach the face to your doll, and I use the fabric glue for this as well. The finnished doll should be between 3"-6" , it can be any shape that you would like to make it. If you don't sew at all, you can use a pre-made muslin doll. Then embellish away, sequins , beads, buttons , lace, ribbon, bits of fabric, felt, trim, feathers, paint, it's up to you. I hope you have fun, I've enjoyed making these and thought I would share the technique with you all.

O.K. No Newbies on this one, a 4.8 rating and no recent no-sends.

I'd love to post a picture, unfourtunately it's not something I am able to do. I am willing to send a doll to anyone who can take a picture and post a link to that picture here in the comment section of this swap, of course you'd get to keep the doll, and as I have several made I can even give you a choice of colors. I'd love for more people to try this technique as it is so easy and effective, not to mention just plain fun.

She has arrived! And she is gorgeous! I have played with the glass drops before for charms & such but not for a doll. Can't wait for the swap.

Can the body shape be like a human person..arms, legs body and head?? Or should the shape be more like a Dotee? Thanks Kimberlee

CatMom...the doll can be shaped any way that you would like, it can be human, animal, even a fireplug....The only requirements are that the face be made from a glass drop, and they should be rather small, between 3"-6". I wanted to encourage individual expression and not limit imagination, so I've left material choice and shape up to each artist. Make something that you would be happy to recieve...so no flimsy paper dolls, other than that....if you have an idea...go for it!
