ABES: Circus!

I have dedicated an entire book to altering it only with envelopes sent to me by others! (if you would like to do a private swap on a different theme, just message me!)

For this page, Let’s go to the circus! For this swap you will send your partner one envelope full of circus related items so that they can alter their page with this theme. You can send as many items as you like but you need to send at least ten. (This will let your partner make choices so that their page is original to them.) Here are some ideas: tickets, cotton candy, popcorn, clowns, circus posters, trains, circus performers, carney people, and children at the circus. Circus animals. Please try to include tags, recycled stuff, stamped images etc. so that there are some really inventive things your partner can come up with and use! You can even include sayings and quotes.

An Altered Book is a book that you get from the resale shop or dollar store that you journal in. I always get a larger size hardback with a book cover so that it holds up to the process. my process is different than other peoples. I prepare my book by keeping the cover pages, glueing three pages together, taring out three pages, glueing three, tearing out three, glueing three... until the whole book is done this way. i will leave the back cover pages. this makes more durable pages to paint on, glue on, cut into etc. it also opens up space for all of the items that might get glued in. on a side note, i chose titles that will go with my altered book, like: "affairs of the heart" or "from a courageous mind". i usually gesso over some of the pages, i will paint on some and leave some un touched depending on what the challenge is. I never send my book out in the mail, that is why we only send envelopes full of the page challenge.

I am hosting two separate swaps in the hopes that everyone can participate. One will be on the main section of swap-bot (this one) and the other will be in the ABES Group (Altered book envelope swap group).

As usual, you must have a 4.9 or higher rating, no 1’s or 3’s in the last six months and newbies are welcome with a well filled out profile. I reserve the right to drop anyone from the swap for looking sketchy.

Is or will this be an on going swap? I think it is a great idea! I have books purchased just for this but never started, this might be just my "ticket" lol!

I was waiting to see if I can find to purchase circus related items before joining. It's been a real downer. It's harder than I thought, any objections to homemade items? I'm not a sticker person either, I'm a scrapbooker, who usually makes my own embellishments. I'm also up for private swaps.

I'm just seeing "ephemera"which is just my style. Are we to send the older / vintage items?

you can send anything! i have some popcorn bags that are red and white striped that can be used to make a circus tent. ive color copied some vintage images from old circus fliers. and yes , you can make, paint, assemble your own to send. its really a suprise to the reciever and a challenge to see how these items can be used to make a page in that theme. I love a challenge!!
it can be older stufff, newer stuff. I went to the salvation army and looked at the kids books. for $.10 each i got three books about the circus and was able to tare out pages with some great images.
