Description:

The Devonian time period (as some of us know from Studio Ghibli's Ponyo) was the Age of Fish, but also the era that marked the rise of the 4-legged land dwelling tetrapods ... go, tetrapods!

Devon is the home of proper British cream teas, and a large number of fossils.

We have come to the end of the Downton Abbey series, the Jane Austen Refuses to be Serious swap didn't get off the ground, and our Anglophilia and some ancient sharks do need to be fed, so stiff upper lip, keep calm and carry on, success consists of going from swap to swap without loss of swap-thusiasm, et cetera

therefore ....

With all due diligence, we shall create one mail art item (ATC, envie, postcard, decorated letter, zine, paper doll et cetera) for TWO (yes, two!) partners in, which we invite our favorite Devonian creature or plant to a Devon Cream Tea using proper Devon Cream Tea technique.

We shall feed the Devonians scones on the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, we shall feed them clotted cream in the cafes, we shall feed them strawberry jam in the tea shops, we shall serve them a proper tea and never surrender our dedication to Archaeopteris and the proliferation of oxygen-giving plants, Coelacanth, Tiktaalik, Megamastax, Dunyu longiforus, Dunkleosteus, Schizophoria, Ammonites, and the first spider ancestor. Our Devonian devotion will never go extinct!

Two partners, two mail art invitations to tea suitable for a Devonian life form. I will Dunkleosteus any unsent swap. Open to all ZmAcS members in good standing. Carpe carpam!

Image is Linda R. Herzog's Cup of Tea on Earl Grey -- Linda, I want to meet you!

(Note: Devo is from Kent, Ohio, not Kent, UK -- who knows if they would be appreciated by Devonians or appreciate a good cream tea?)

Coelacanth heroes ... -- sorry, I was misspelling the word Coelacanth!

for the many ZMACS mermaid enthusiasts

No, thank you, ModDessert in Guelph! You have made my day! Etsy link

rngstgstll 03/30/2016 #

Then you saw Dunleosteus, now you Coelacanth.

rngstgstll 03/31/2016 #

Sorry, that's Dunkleosteus!

KarensMonsters 04/ 1/2016 #

Seriously why are there not more people in this swap. It's brilliant!

rngstgstll 04/ 2/2016 #

Ah, but perhaps they are lurking like the Dunkleosteus in the murky deep ...

bigmamabird 04/ 3/2016 #

Ah, just a heads up on that picture of the scones, no proper scone has raisins!!! Specially for high tea...just sayin'.

rngstgstll 04/ 4/2016 #

So, are currants proper? Or does that make it a bun rather than a scone? Need Anglophilic advice, please!

rngstgstll 04/ 4/2016 #

Now of course if we are talking dwarf scones, we need to turn to the L-space ...

Sorry, major Terry Pratchett fan here. Couldn't resist.

HelloWheeze 04/ 4/2016 #

Can I just mention a couple of things?

One is that I hate you for making me want a cream tea incredibly badly... and it HAS to be clotted cream (whipped is laughable) and that's just an impossibility.

And two is that the Cornish would have your guts for garters at your Devonian attribution :P

HelloWheeze 04/ 4/2016 #

Btw, in my humble opinion currants would be weird in a scone (too small and curranty), but I personally like them with raisins, and I also adore cherry scones, although that's definitely not traditional at all!

Damn I gotta learn to make scones, but they're haaaard....

If we want to add another controversy, the real issue for the British is how to PRONOUNCE scone - it's complicated, but is both regional and class-related...

HelloWheeze 04/ 4/2016 #

Oops just saw that you got into pronunciation.... it's a big issue though!

rngstgstll 04/ 5/2016 #

To be fair to fair Cornwall ... maybe we can have a Smuggled Scone swap?

rngstgstll 04/ 5/2016 #

Hibernian Scoons?

rngstgstll 04/ 7/2016 #

I think sometimes that the word "proper" need s a lot of translation, too :)

Moominbrooke 04/11/2016 #

In California they are "sceauns"

Angie 04/13/2016 #

Go, tetrapods was the call of my alma matter!

rngstgstll 04/13/2016 #

Oh, wow! I want more information ...
