Let’s Write! – May

There are lots of different kinds of writers in this group. For this swap, we will be celebrating our differences and what brings us together – writing! The goal of this swap is just to write whatever it is that you write – flash fiction, short story, creative non-fiction, blog, journal, poetry, etc. Think of it as a monthly accountability to yourself.

So how does this work? Pick a writing goal to accomplish this month, write, and then send your writing to your partner snail mail. It’s that simple and that hard. Feel free to include a note to your partner about your experience in meeting your writing goal.

Please feel free to post your goal below for ‘public accountability.’

Here are a few caveats and questions/answers that might help figure out this swap:

What if I what I write is short?
If you write haikus or something that is only a few lines, you may want to send your partner a couple poems instead of just one. Please try to aim for at least half a page of writing. If you aren’t sure, please send me a message.

What if my partner wrote a poem and I wrote a five thousand word story?
Congrats on writing this month! The goal of this swap is to write. As long as your partner sends you what they wrote, rate them as a 5.

How do I send my partner an electronic blog entry?
Either print out your blog entry or write your partner a note with a link included. A hard copy of something must be sent to your partner.

In Summary:

  • Set a goal.
  • Write.
  • Send your partner what you wrote.
  • Receive something that someone else wrote.
  • Optional: Post below what you plan on doing this month – (For example: I’m going to write a short story this month.)

If this idea works out, I might post more of these open writing swaps. Please let me know what you think!

I am planning on writing at least one short story.

Poftoffel 04/25/2016 #

I want to write a short story and a poem.

renmagpie 04/28/2016 #

I would like to write a couple of poems, and perhaps a creative non-fiction piece or two.

I will definitely write a poem (for a group) and at least two nonfiction pieces (for another group) and there's a barely started long short story (or maybe it'll become a novella) I think I'll write --changes are my partner will get a poem and a nonfiction piece.

I will write a blog post series of articles.

My May goal is to rewrite/revise 50 pages of my crime novel and 20 new scene pages.

I won't burden my partner with all of that. I'll likely send 5-10 pages and a set up.

Poftoffel 05/24/2016 #

If you don't reach your goal, do you just send what you DID wrote? And that is worth a 5? Or can you be downrated for not reaching your goal?

Nserviam 05/25/2016 #

I keep changing my mind on this... You set your own goal for this swap. If you think you can't reach that goal, switch it to something more manageable. The goal of this swap is to write. As long as you send your partner something you wrote this month, I think that meets the requirements of the swap.

If you have any questions about what you are sending or how to rate what you receive, please feel free to contact me.
