Description:

I'm sure many of you are like me and remember participating in a public library summer reading program. I well remember reading my ten books and getting a small momento at the end. This swap gives us a chance to participate once again.

For this swap you will read ten books, then send your partner a list of books, author, title and a sentence or two about what you thought of the book. Also, send a small ($1. to $2, dollar) something that will give your partner a momento of her summer reading program. What you send is sender's choice, but do look at their dislike list.

Swap is open to anyone however I will ban anyone who has unresolved 1's, any recent low ratings, anyone with a reputation for drama or who hasn't filled out her profile.

Wonderful idea for a swap :)

Does books on audio count?

mejulia 05/10/2016 #

Absolutely audio books count as do ebooks. I just learned how to check ebooks out from my library and now on to audio books.

lawchick 05/12/2016 #

If I'm not able to get to 10 books am I going to be rated a 3? :-/

mejulia 05/14/2016 #

Hi @lawchick sorry to be so slow answering. I have really been debating what my answer should be. Part of my reason for the swap is to push myself to read all ten books this summer and that is the goal of summer reading programs. That said, I understand really trying and just not making it. What if you don't make all ten books you can add recently read books to the list so your recipient has a list of ten books and you know you tried. Does that make sense? Seem fair to everyone? Julia

Do novella's count? If so lawchick you might be able to finish some of those. I think most of those are only like a 100 pages or less.

Also can we do more then 10? I'm a fast reader. Last year from March 1, 2015 to March 1, 2016 I read a total of 308 books. So I average 20 - 30 books a months. With most of those books all containing 350+ pages. I do throw in a novella here and there when an author I follow does one as part of her on going series or if one of the authors I ARC for sends me one to read. So I'll have no problem with getting the 10 read.

@LunaMoody absolutely, the length of the book doesn't count so novellas are perfect. Thank you for the great idea.

Absolutely you can read and report o more than ten books. How great you read that much.

I have an idea that would be fun for those who are partnered with someone who is not able to read 10 books in the allotted time: That correspondent could list those books he/she DID read, and then an additional number (to make 10) of books that he/she is most excited TO read. (And be sure to tell your partner why you're excited about that book/those books.) :-)

For those of us who read fast and are able to read more than 10 books in the allotted time, is it okay if we/I write a letter after the first 10 and then a new letter with the next 10 and so on? I read on average 20 books a month, so that'd be 60 books = 6 letters. ???

Or did you want us to write just one letter at the end (in September) about the books we read over the summer?

mejulia 06/ 2/2016 #

@reader44ever I like your idea for Simone who isn't able to read ten books during the summer As for the idea of writing more than one letter, I love the idea but don't want to make it a requirement as it adds a bit more pressure after people already signed up. That said I'm certain your partner would be most pleased to get two letters.

On another subject. Thank you all for joining. I almost didn't post this as I was afraid no one would join. We made it to the top ten list!!!

I'm at Disneyland, had best get back to people watching

mejulia 06/ 2/2016 #

Oops. Autocorrect got me. It is someone in the first line.

reader44ever 06/ 2/2016 #

Thanks @ mejulia ! I'm glad you like my idea. I'll probably aim to send a letter every two weeks, so long as I've managed to read at least 10 books in any given set of two weeks. :-)

I am REALLY excited for this Swap to begin! :-)

stkirsch 06/ 3/2016 #

How about reading fanfiction? I can provide links and author user names. Most of the stories I read are upwards of 50,000 words long. Regardless I'm so excited for this swap.

mejulia 06/ 3/2016 #

Hi, @skirsch super glad you are excited about this swap. I have no real idea of what fan fiction is, but I'm sure it is good for this swap. I would love to see some links so I can learn about it.

yannajk 06/ 4/2016 #

Just to make sure I got it right- We read 10 books this summer and then tell about them to our swap partner, in a letter, which we send out at September 6, 2016. Right?

dobbsthedog 07/18/2016 #

Quick question! I read A LOT and am already at 14 books. Should I keep going and list all the books I read during the summer or should I send now that I'm at (passed) 10? Thanks! =)

thepinkaholic 09/ 9/2016 #

I forgot to click "sent" on the 6th, but it did get mailed on the 6th! I have been very ill this week with viral bronchitis and my brain isn't quite functioning as it should. Just wanted to let everybody know that I did send on time!
