I have always liked school supplies and I have participated in school supply swaps before, but I'm not comfortable with public swaps these days, so let's do a little bit of school shopping. Whether you have kids or not, you probably can't help but notice that the big box stores have their back-to-school sections going in already (I swear, it's like putting out Christmas in October...). I feel the pull of fresh new pencils, boxes of crayons and pretty erasers. Let's head to our favorite back-to-school sections and do some grown-up school shopping, because it's fun! Choose a pencil case, and then pick some items to fill it with. I'm picturing slightly less utilitarian things, like fish-shaped pencil sharpeners, monster erasers, glitter pencils, animal-shaped sticky notes and the like, and maybe some kind of pretty notebook and something colorful with which to write or draw in it too. Let's say 6-8 items total, not including the pencil case. It doesn't all have to fit in the case, and probably won't all fit with everything still in the packages, but everything should fit in a 9x12 padded envelope. Each package counts as one, so e.g. 3 Star Wars pencils in a package counts as 1 item for swap fulfillment purposes. Feel free to look in your parter's profile for favorite colors and whatnot, but ultimately this is senders' choice so if you get an envelope with a pencil case and 6-8 back-to-school things to put in it, it's a 5, even if they are not things you would have chosen. TL;DR Here's the scoop:
Oh, and if there happen to be any kids in your immediate vicinity, feel free to bring them to the store with you, then cackle with delight as they are compelled to choose 24 boring yellow Ticonderoga pencils, and one green, one blue, and one red paper folder, while you are choosing polka dots and paisley! But hey, at least they can cross "school shopping" off their to-do lists, right? Ha ha! (USA only due to postage, because I have three little scoundrels to buy actual, mundane school supplies for, and their to-get lists are depressingly long.)
