Description:

Calling all creative visionaries who love sock monkeys!

For sock monkey enthusiasts, it sometimes seems impossible to make them cuter. It is!

For this swap, you'll make 1 sock monkey for 1 partner anywhere in the world (this is international). To make your monkey, follow traditional instructions like these http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1104 but you'll be using children's or baby socks, the smaller the better.

Pick a colour and decorate the monkey to match your partner's profile and use common sense - if they love cotton use it, if they are allergic to wool, avoid it.

Now for the fine print.

  • If you can't commit the time to sending your partner a great monkey, don't sign up.
  • BEGINNER sewers welcome (just be willing to learn)
  • International swap
  • Must have atleast 5 rated mail swaps with a rating of 4.8
  • I will be checking profiles prior to assigning partners to weed out anyone who doesn't meet requirements or seems flaky
  • Must rate partner promptly for swap-if you receive a sock monkey made with kid's socks that was mailed out by the deadline = 5
  • Any flakers or those who don't rate will be banned from any of my future swaps.

Happy sewing and looking forward to swapping some monkeys!

Those little guys are adorable. I wish I could sew because this would be such a great swap. Good luck, you guys!

If you want to learn, sign up! Socks monkeys are fun because they're pretty quick and easy to do.

Before I join... where is a place you can find child sized socks that aren't white or solid? I've never seen the heeled and toed socks like the ones used for sock monkeys in any size other than adult around here :( Any ideas where I might find some???

LaughingCrow 10/ 7/2008 #

I picked some up from a discount department store- striped with solid heels - that worked well. Alternatively, I've also found them at dollar stores.

I've also used solid coloured socks for them and they still look good. I just stitch some little nostrils and a smile to give a little personality.

Thanx :D I will have a look at our dollar store and see what I can find.... I've never actually made one, but I;ve had a full size kit laying around for years now :P I'll practice first before I join ;)

Woot! Made my first sock monkey today.... now if only I could find the right small sock :P I'll keep looking cause I really want to join this swap! :D

Love your sock monkey!

I've gotten addicted to making them (as the 9 reposing on my sofa would agree). I hope you can find perfect small socks and join us.

Where do you find an infant/toddler knee sock? I have been looking everywhere, so I can join this swap, and all I can find are the plain boring white crew socks. I have found girls size knee socks, but they don't look as babyish as yours did!

Thanks

You don't absolutely need knee socks for these monkeys. As long as the socks would be beyond ankle height on a baby or toddler, you'll have enough length to make a good monkey.

I bought a pair of baby socks from a local discount department store (Zellers); a pack of 4 pairs of socks for about $5. You have to look a little but they are out there. Looking at them, they'd come to maybe mid calf on a baby.

I found some yesterday at K-mart - they had some plain white with blue or gray toes 2 for $2 & they had 6 packs that were cute colors that were $5.99 in boy & girl colors.

I don't think they were called knee highs but they seem long enough to work!

Thank you so much for creating this swap! I've always wanted to learn to make sock monkeys... I made my first one last night (a regular sized one) just for practice & it was so much easier than I thought it would be!

Thanks for letting me in! I promise I won't flake. :)

Hopefully next time I will be able to find some small socks :P The only ones I could find had John Deere on them and just wouldn't have worked right :P Please let me know if you do another in the future as I will always be looking for the right socks ;)
