ATC backgrounds

You need to edit your info, at the top it says 2 swap partners, and underneath it says 3.

so, which is it, 2 or 3?

Just to be sure I got it right... We send ATC sized backgrounds and not whole background sheets, right?

if all swappers make my criteria by the deadline if signup date, that being no ratings of less than 4, newbies welcome with profiles filled out and the new request....please if you have no ratings yet ...use this public forum to introduce yourself to the group....

then what can i do, its not fair to ban someone just because i am e mailed off list and being asked by another to do so, even if what they are saying is true...

On the topic of "flakers", that is a term for those who don't send their swap or who send very late or don't follow the rules. I have come to realize that there are some (good) swappers here who have chosen to not use the swap-bot admin definitions for the rating system out of being overly-"nice" which has resulted in problem-swappers having high ratings.

This is a pretty loose criteria swap and it is too loose for me. Although my backgrounds are done and ready to go I am going to drop from the swap. I see some members in this swap who have over 10 "no-send's" on file and one who says in the profile they are sick and late on many swaps. I feel that if a person is ill they should stop signing up for new swaps until all the old swaps that are late are finished up.

Anyway I am sick of being burned by other swap-bot members who don't send me swaps. I work hard to get my swaps out on time.

I am also a swap host, I guess I will have to up the ante on my own swaps and make the rules even more strict as even with me requiring a 4.7 rating people are still getting burned. Unless we all start rating the people as they deserve, such as if they do a 'no send' to rate them a 1 or if it comes late (not following the rules) to rate them a 3 how are we to know who follows the rules and who stiffs the other swappers?

christine, i must say i agree but its a tough position to be in, as host you must know.

i will say rating a 1 because someone is late is NOT fair, espically for international swaps.

i will let you all know the outcome, i am leaning towards 3 no sends maximum.

I am one of those too nice people who go easy on people who are chronically late because that is their personality and who am I to punish them for their way of being. And if someone can't send me something because of something unhappy in their lives and lets me know, I won't rate them at all. Life happens. However, I am not so easy on people who post in their profiles stuff like "I am so busy with this that and the other thing so please be patient with me," because I agree that if your life is too busy, swapping isn't for you. Don't make me come and show you how to prioritize! :-)

And I am harsh with people who are chronic no-senders. I keep very accurate records of addresses, and I always check my database to see if someone is a flake using a new name. These people aren't having hard times. They are mean.

Anyway, I swap because I enjoy the sending. When I receive something back, I'm thrilled. My philosophy is the fun is in the sending of something I feel passionate enough about to spend money on postage to send. I don't expect others to follow my philosophy and I would hope others would not judge me on my philosophy.

I am making my backgrounds today (actually the sheet I will cut up is drying in the sun right now) and it got me thinking. Do we label the back of these cards like a finished card or do we just send them as is?

I look at it this way. If they don't send it, I rate them as such. In order for me to change it, they have to send it.

I am a newby, just signed up and hope to be accepted by the host. I don't know about ratings etc. but I would like to participate. I have all my materials, books and a wonderful person who introducted me to this site and who will be guiding me along. Thanks and looking forward to swapping ATCs.

Virginia, just FYI, but I learned that you have a better chance of being accepted by the swap host as a newbie if you fill out your profile.

virginia, it is 1 day before the sign up deadline, i mmust say if you profile remains blank i will have to drop you, thanks for understanding, if you have read the forum above you will understand why:) everyone else looks good, i have banned a few people and given reasons why also. i hate to do this but its like that. noel

noel--what about labeling these cards? Do we label the backs or leave them blank?

I found this discussion very informative. I have waited patiently for late swaps and delayed my rating until it was received. I do realize that sometimes life does get in the way of the best intentions. So far I have been lucky and have finally received everything I was waiting for. I did put a note with the rating saying- better late than never. I see some people on many swaps both here and in individual groups and they are late sending and always have an excuse. The fact is they over-commit themselves and have no self control. In my humble opinion!

hi, well i think we should leave these atc backs blank, but if you put ALOT of artistic effort then of course do what your are comfortable with :)

i tend to go with cheryl's philosophy, but then perhaps i have known to overcommit myself once or twice....LOL oh heck havent we all, i just want swapping to be fun again!!!!!!!! huge grin:)

Yeah! I received backgrounds from LMM and Kimberly today. I like the element of surprise, LMM, that comes with the wax resist...makes me wanna go play. Kimberly, yours are awesome too, each is so totally different. I'm excited to get something started but if I hole up in my studio all Easter weekend, my family will disown me!

Speaking of which, Happy Easter everyone, and lets do this again real soon. For some reason, this sparks my creativity more than when I do a background myself!
