Description:

What can a sentence spark in us creatively - and how can our days inspire that creative process? Well, this swap aims to answer both of those questions!

For this swap, you'll write down ONE sentence that sums up or describes your day, for 30 days. You can use a sheet of paper, letterset, or even do this in a pocket sized notebook if you want.

At the end of those 30-days, go back through and read what you've written. See what jumps out at you, and select one of your sentences as the basis for a story. You can expand on that particular day, you can fictionalize it and use it as a prompt, use it as a basis for a piece of prose...

Whatever path that sentence takes you down, make sure you write no less than 500 words about it.

The Swap

  • Write down 1 sentence each day for 30, consecutive days, that sums up or describes your day. This log may handwritten or typed, and maintained on a sheet of note paper, letterset, or in a pocket notebook. NOTE: Since this is an international swap, if you're minding the cost of postage, you may want to elect to keep a paper log.

  • If you keep a paper log (rather than a pocket notebook), please ensure that the log remains neat and in pristine condition. You may also decorate it if you wish. But no one wants to receive a tatty, worn out sheet of paper with scribbles on it!

  • Ensure that each sentence is dated and numbered.

  • At the end of the 30 days, read back through what you've written and select a sentence that speaks to you. Write no less than 500 words with that sentence as your basis/inspiration. The piece can be a recounting of that day, fiction of any genre, prose...anything you want it to be/have been inspired to write - as long as it's no less than 500 words. Yes, this may be typed (hand written if you want, but typed is preferred).

  • Include a note explaining why that sentence inspired your piece.

  • Send to one partner.

Rules of the Road

  • You must send: 1 log containing 30 sentences, one for each day; 1 500 word (or more) piece of writing inspired by one of those sentences; and 1 note to your partner explaining what it was that inspired you in that sentence.

  • Send on time. If you are going to be late, communicate with myself AND your partner. Sending late with no communication warrants a 3 rating.

  • Rate promptly and fairly. You cannot rate down because you didn't like what you received if it meets the requirements of the swap otherwise. Remember, we will remove non-raters from the group if this becomes an issue (I don't expect that it will be).

  • Hearts are at the discretion of the rater.

  • I certainly don't expect anyone to flake in this swap but if that does happen, please let me know after you rate a 1, and I will angel. Please note that anyone who flakes will be immediately removed from this group.
