Description:

My shower this morning was very inspiring. As I climbed in, I noticed torn pieces of a fast food styrofoam cup all over the floor that was undoubtedly a project by one of my children. Was I upset? Of course not! OK, maybe a little. I gathered every piece of the cup and piled them in the corner. Further into my shower, I glanced down at the pile. Did I see a torn up cup? No. I saw a mosaic just screaming to be created.

Grab your trash, swappers. You can use anything. Try a torn up cup, cup lid, newspaper, fabric scraps, twigs from the yard, anything to create your mosaic. How about using envelopes from bills as your backdrop? (Never throw away another envelope without looking at the graphic patterns inside). Use anything you like. Just create something that you would be proud to hang on your wall.

Just be creative. Try a round shape, a standard frame size, or whatever your inspiration calls for. International swap, 1 swap partner.

I've been waiting for a mosaic swap! Thanks for arranging one!

This is a cool idea! And it immediately made me think of the ancient Roman mosaics that DEPICT trash scattered on a floor. Check out an example at: http://www.ou.edu/class/ahi1113/slides/06-16-2.jpg (I know it's not exactly the same thing as this swap, but I couldn't help connecting the two....)

Yay!!! I was worried no one would sign up! Glad you're here.

FarStarr 03/ 9/2007 #

Oh Man...a girl after my own heart! Check my profile...I love beautiful trash!

user5618 03/ 9/2007 #

right on, sista!

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 9/2007 #

what size do we make these?

ladydy5 03/ 9/2007 #

Pls let us know if this is to be an ATC, postcard or an 8 x 12.?

user5618 03/ 9/2007 #

You can make it any size you would like, but remember to make something you would be proud to hang on your wall. This is not an ATC swap, but if that is the size you would like to make, it's up to you. I plan on doing something at least 8 x 10 or larger (I have many walls to fill!).

I'm all about newbies! I was once one myself. Just want everyone's best work, highest ethics, and tons of creative goodness.

This sounds like a very unusual fun swap, I'm in...

FarStarr 04/ 9/2007 #

Has anyone started their creation??

aya 04/ 9/2007 #

I just finished mine - it was fun! You can see a photo of it on my flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/lilly1975/453204304/

And I also published a tutorial of how to make it if anyone feels like making one , it's really fun and easy: http://www.instructables.com/blog/BJK3XPCF05IO1W1/#C2I5NEGF0BKYDXG

If you do, let me know how it went.

I recd my trash to treasure from Toni. I will post pics as soon as I can get the function to work...

user5618 04/12/2007 #

I can't wait to see what you got, FarStarr! I've finished mine but not sure if I should post a pic before it goes in the mail. I've only posted one other pic on swap-bot before, but it came out huge -- any tips?

FarStarr 04/13/2007 #

I use my photo program to resize the picture to approx. 400x600 pixels (I'm not sure who originally posted that tip, but it works for me). My daughter found me a great piece of beautiful trash at the bus-stop this morning. The muse is is high gear!

user5618 04/13/2007 #

Beckra, your rainbow mosaic is awesome. Thanks for posting a pic!!

FarStarr 04/16/2007 #

I posted pics of both what I recd an what I am sending....I'm not telling where it's going yet.

My trash to treasure went out this morning....

Thank you Amberli for the terrific package I received today. I got a beautiful mosaic plate made with colored tissue (how clever!). Thank you for the note and the other little paper goodies. It is a treasure!

Natalie, your mosaic is on its way. I cringed as the postal worker threw it in the bin, so I hope it makes it ok. Hope you enjoy!
