Description:

There is another Tiny Paper Squares swap going on, but it's US Only, and I just know there are some cool papers out in the wide, wide world, so I'm going Global!

The Swap: You will have one partner--easier on the postage than two or more. Look through your paper scraps from projects and other sources, like newspapers in your native language, magazines, sales flyers and advertisements from stores, wallpaper samples, handmade paper--anything really interesting and cut them into 1" -3" pieces and send your partner a standard mailing letter envelope as full as you can get it without going over the thickness requirements for 1st class letter or airmail letter if international.

Hint: if you lay them in rows into a piece of tissue paper and fold it up flat, they are less likely to bunch up and get thick at one end, causing the postage to go up!

Colors, textures and patterns are key, don't look at what it says, but what the small piece will be. These small pieces are very useful for collages, ATCs and Alteredbooks.

There will be two weeks between sign up deadline and mailing date, so start cutting as soon as you sign up, it takes a long time for international airmail sometimes. Also, Please e-mail your partner when you have mailed, so he/she will have an idea when to watch the mailbox for it.

We have a fast turn-around time, because you can start cutting now! and have all the time till the sign-up closes and the mailing date comes up. I just spent 20 minutes going through my scrap paper box and cut enough for four such swaps!

If you have a rating of less than 4, please e-mail me before you sign up and explain why you should be allowed to swap. Newbies are welcome because it's a fairly easy project, and a good way to build your ratings by mailing your envelope on time.

Please be thoughtful and fulfill your swap, it's so unpleasant to work hard to get something mailed out and not get anything in return!

I'm in!:-)

Vlcatko 03/13/2007 #

Just a little question to be sure: how big is "standard mailing letter envelope?" =^^=7

Nathalie 03/14/2007 #

would that be 2.5 by7.5cm?

Vlcatko 03/14/2007 #

He he, that would be 0.98 by 2.95 inches - I think that's not it ;)

Did you mean 2.5 by 7.5 inches? That's 6.35 by 19.05 for me - sounds more real - but still nothing like any standard envelope around here =^.'=

PostMuse 03/14/2007 #

Weee! I was hoping for an international edition of this swap. I am in the US, but not fond of geographically restricted swaps, especially when the item to be sent won't cost much in postage. Thank you for hosting twobluecrows!

Nathalie 03/14/2007 #

I meant the paper pieces 1"-3" would that be2.5 by 7.5cm?

twobluecrows 03/14/2007 #

The "standard envelope" I listed is like whatever you would put a letter in to mail. I'm not talking about anything big like a manilla envelope.

For letters we have many sizes, but two most commonly used are: "size 6 3/4"(letter) and "size 10" (business).
'letter' is about 4"x7"--something like 10x19mm? and 'business' is4"x9.5" so 11x24mm?

The idea is to make them inexpensive to mail, so whatever you are comfortable with mailing is up to you, but the minimum is one of those two envelope sizes because they are the lowest sizes on the postal list for 1st class postage.

Cyn

twobluecrows 03/14/2007 #

Nathalie, yes, those sizes are about right.

Nathalie --- yup, that's roughly it. 1 inch is 2.54 cm exactly (according to Google), so 2,5 cm is pretty much OK I suppose - I am used to metric as well but as I will be sending bigger pieces than 1 inch I should be safe enough, ne?

twobluecrows --- thanks for clearing that up for me :) Better safe than sorry, I think =^.^=

jannikinz 03/14/2007 #

This sounds like lotsa fun..(my enveloppe is already ready to go)!cheers from downunder.

zanylady 03/17/2007 #

Sounds like fun.....I hope in this swap I get a mixture. In the US one I got 25 pcs of the same paper....I felt like sending her some others as she must have had a slim collection.....can that me possible for paper groupies like us???

Marlene

Craftlover10101 03/18/2007 #

Marlene, how funny though. I'm sending as much as I can get into the envelope, and a wide variety. I'm still going through my stash to find more.

PostMuse 03/18/2007 #

I've got some non-English text squares cut, and now I am working on colors and images. As soon as I get my partner I'll try to add a bit more to match profile, but the majority will be done so I can mail right away. It's relaxing to just cut squares without worrying about assembling something :-)

Craftlover10101 03/18/2007 #

I've been cheating at the cutting lol. I've been using my cutting matt for quilting and my rotary cutter. Wow does it go fast. Than all the extras are going into a good box for another project, swap or what ever they may be needed for. Well back to working on other swaps.

ladypatg 03/19/2007 #

This sounds like great fun. Heaven knows ! have enough kinds of papers to make it interesting to go look. I'll probably discover things I forgot I had!

Basilika 03/20/2007 #

Just to be sure about the size of the pieces of paper: do you mean that they can be anywhere from 1"x1" to 3"x3" or that they should all be 1"x3"?

Craftlover10101 03/23/2007 #

Basilika, they are to be 1x1 2x2 3x3. I'm throwing all of my extras into a goodie box lol. Maybe that will be another swap. Your extra's lol I'd start a swap but I can't I haven't been rated yet lol.

amymisha 03/23/2007 #

I'm looking forward to this! : ) I have TONS of fun paper!

gramsbuttonbox 03/23/2007 #

am in the middle of a very serious family situation at this time, so have to drop out - hope to catch ya later, this is such a wonderful swap idea - thanks for hosting it! MaryB

Craftlover10101 03/24/2007 #

Grams, hope all goes well sending prayers.

Craftlover10101 03/25/2007 #

Hi are we going to get our partners? Sorry I'm not sure how it works cause I am still new to this but I thought we were supposed to get them on the day after the swap closed which was the 24 and it's now the 25th. Just asking like I said I'm still learning and want to know what to expect. TY

Basilika 03/25/2007 #

Heather: we get our partners no more than three days after the swap closes, so the 26th at the latest.

PostMuse 03/25/2007 #

If the swap coordinator doesn't click the assign partner button, we will have to wait until the "bot" does so, which is three days after the sign-up deadline. My guess is that the bot won't do this until Sunday night, very late, so it will be Monday for most of us before we will know our partners. Hoping the send by date will be extended if this is the case.

PostMuse 03/25/2007 #

I simul-posted Basilika :-)

Craftlover10101 03/25/2007 #

lol looks like i'm not the only one waiting patiently lol, thanks for the information both of you.
:-)))))

Cool Thanks Basilika!!! Ok I'm excited, cant wait.

twobluecrows 04/ 4/2007 #

Hi all, I'm enjoying the ATCs I've been receiving, but got a mystery package yesterday--a shredded envelope in the POst Office's dreaded "WE CARE" plastic bag! It only had two scraps of paper in it, a piece of vellum with little blue squares pattern and a very pale pastel tea party design on the other. The return address said Alice McCaig from Texas, but no id as to which swap iot was for on the envelope.

This is another sad reminder that it's impossible to identify things we get in the mail unless you put the swap and your username on the outside of the envie as well as inside. Since we don't get to see our list of senders until the rating time comes well after the end of the swap, I'm going to have to post this message in all my (many) open swaps until I find Alice and give her the bad news. :( This might have been a paper swap, or an ATC with some nice extras, I can't tell.

********ATTENTION: please note that i apologize for my delay in sending some swaps out as well as rating swaps received lately. it was a terrible semester at school thank goodness it's done now) but the major stress is that i've received noticed of reduction of hours at work. this has obviously taken up a lot of time and energy. i have noted the wonderful packages i received, and will start rating people on my day off, and most of my swaps are almost ready to go out.

Craftlover10101 04/ 9/2007 #

Hi Postmuse, I have to find my cable tomorrow for my camera. I have taken lost of pictures lately. And wanted to take pictures of everything she sent me. Oh I was just in aw, it was one of the best swaps yet being a newbie to all of this. Although they are all great. It was just the amount and the differences. I kinda think mine might have been a little boring. But I covered the required elements :-( I will work on photos tomorrow I have to find that stupid cord oh wait lol I forgot this puter has a disk thingy i can pull the disk out of the camera and just slap it in. LMAO ok ok tomorrow I'll add photos to my flickr. Egads!

PostMuse 04/11/2007 #

Thanks HeatherS! I wanted to make sure what I sent was on par with a great envelope and though the variety of paper I used isn't as extensive, I think I did okay :-)

Craftlover10101 04/11/2007 #

I received this swap from Lucie in the Czech Republic! So cool! This is mt first mail ever from the Czech Republic! Love the papers and the extra goodies! The map was such a great treat and inspired me to do the same with my international swaps! Thanks so much!

Retromama 04/16/2007 #

Twobluecrows - I received your wonderful package this weekend. Loved the bits and pieces of paper. So creative of choices. I can't wait to use them.

twobluecrows 04/20/2007 #

Bombshell-o-matic I'm really glad you're happy with them! I tried to make as varied a collection as possible and aside from the fun of finding papers I'd forgotten I even had, the search inspired a couple of new works of my own! Cyn

twobluecrows 04/21/2007 #

sugarbooger(Jona Rhica Mejico), your packet came today, a little worse for wear through the perilous gauntlet of post offices between there and here, but the contents are in ok shape and terrific! Thanks! Cyn
