Description:

You will decorate a roll of paper (or many papers glued or sewn together), approximately 2 - 2.5 inches tall and 3 feet in length. You can use muslin or some other light fabric as a base and decoupage or sew the paper to the base. You decorate the paper with paint, inks, collage elements, rubber stamps, stencils and whatever else you like. You send the roll attached to an empty spool (thread, calculator, ribbon) and send to your partner.

Your partner can use the roll in pieces to add borders to their art/junk journals or use to make happy mail or to make cards.

Since this will require sending in a bubble envelope (yes, this is a requirement for this swap), this first swap will be USA only. You may make an international version if you want.

If you do not have an empty spool, you can roll and send unattached. Tie with a ribbon or yarn.

These are fun and a little bit addictive!

This sounds very interesting, but I’m just unsure about the quality of one that I would be able to make. I think I need to find the time to make one for myself first and see how it turns out. I can imagine it being a hot mess! LOL! Is attaching it to fabric a requirement?

No you can glue to paper or fabric or your child's homework! Whatever works - I think the intent behind this is that you can rip it or cut it to add to a journal page or mail art or cards or whatever. But it is a fantastic way to use up scraps!

Thanks, Susan. I’m going to try to make one tonight on a paper base and if I think it looks good enough to swap, I’ll join. 😊

One more idea - Tyvek envelopes from the post office. Or Tyvek fabric if you are a kite-maker or house builder!
