Description:

Inspired by the December, 2018 of Somerset Studio, let's create a winged paper doll!

I am going to link a video for those that don't have this issue, or that just want to see the process in action. You do not have to do your paper doll exactly as shown. Use this as inspiration and a starting point.

The Basics:

You will select a TH paper doll and cut the bottom part of the legs and attach to a skirt as shown in the video. The skirt can be fabric or even pretty paper. Add wings to your doll. When you are finished, you will be attaching it to a large paper tag. ETA: The #8 size manilla shipping tag would work wonderfully (6 1/4" X 3 1/8") or something similar in size. You can decorate a manila shipping tag or create your own out of sturdy paper. Get creative! It does not need to be over the top decorated, as we want the focus to be on the paper doll, but something nice to compliment it. When you add your paper doll to the tag, her legs can hang over the bottom edge as shown or not. Either is acceptable!

Add embellishments and finishing touches to your doll and the tag. Some ideas:

  • book page strip
  • small jewel or metal embellishments
  • rubber stamping
  • words/phrases
  • small fabric/lace/tulle details

The Video

I want you to have fun with this and use your own creativity and style. That being said, let's agree to include the following:

  • TH paper doll
  • skirt created from fabric or paper
  • wings
  • your doll should be secured on a large paper tag
  • add some decorative touches/embellishments

Package your tag securely for travel and include a note with your swap-bot ID and swap name.

Let's make paper dolls!

I always think of my grandma and my aunt when I watch tutorials like this - how I used to sit and watch them cook or do a craft or something. They would talk and talk and I'd watch and listen. =)

That's so sweet @ChinaCat ! Same for me :) I could watch my gram for hours just keeping those little hands busy with crafty things and cooking and baking. Memories are beautiful :)

This is from the original Somerset project ...

what size tag please?

sassafrass 07/ 3/2019 #

I'm going to be using a #8 manilla shipping tag (6 1/4" X 3 1/8"), as that size works perfectly for me. I did put in the swap to use a larger tag, so anything along those lines will work :)

here's an interesting tip: my tag wouldn't fit in the envelope that i had already to go, so i made the feet movable... they slide up under the skirt for mailing, and then come down upon arrival... my swap partner can choose how long she wants the legs. and i don't have to redo my envelope!
