World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 9th. The event was declared by the 1969 Universal Postal Congress in Tokyo as a means to mark the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) creation in 1874. THE SWAP: Send your partner a post card that is postal themed in some way. The card can be homemade or store bought. Write the swap name and your user name on your post card so your partner can rate you. Why We Love World Post Day 1) It reminds us to stay in touch John Lennon once sang that "life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." And in the hustle-and-bustle world, it's good to take the time to reach out to those we love. The postal service lets us do that β quickly, efficiently, and for a good price, too! 2) Postal workers deserve recognition Although the U.S. Postal Service has no official motto, it is often associated with a quote from the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." The quote is a fitting tribute to postal workers the world over who are tasked with delivering our most precious correspondence. 3)There's nothing like getting a letter or a postcard Sure, most of us communicate via the internet these days. But there's just something extra special about opening the mailbox to find a handwritten note from someone far away. THE SWAP AGAIN: Send your partner a post card that is postal themed in some way. The card can be homemade or store bought. Write the swap name and your user name on your post card so your partner can rate you. I will ban at my discretion if a rating is low or I think there will be any un-fun drama in this swap. I will angel if you rate your partner a "1" for flaking. Newbies welcome. I will review participants and assign partners on September 28. |
