I remember being a newbie and waiting for swaps I could do to get rated. So here's one for all the newbies out there.

Pick TWO different items from the following list and send it to your partner. All these items are not too expensive to buy or ship.

-A fat quarter -A card of buttons -A roll of ribbon -A yard of lace -6 skeins of embroidery floss -A rubber stamp -A sheet of rub-on or sticker letters -A useful handmade item (like a needlebook, bookmarks, etc. - something that isn't just decoration but can be used)

This swap is open to all newbies and even those swappers with ratings. I am not going to be ban happy on this one, unless it's someone I know to be a known scammer or you have really suspect ratings (like all ones). i will be checking things, like profiles are all filled out and that your links work.

Here's why I call it "At Your Own Risk" swap. If you don't get something from your partner I will not be swap-fairy-ing this swap. But if you do get stiffed, I will heartily recommend, if you are able to, filing a mail fraud claim with the post office and will give you the information to do just that. I am not sure if it is able to be done internationally though.

I think this is a great way to get some new swappers into the fold and have some fun doing it. Let's get swapping!

EDITED ADDITION: If mailing to another country, do not use surface mail to mail your item. It takes very long to arrive and that is not fair to your partner. Please mail Airmail if mailing out of the country. Thanks!

I just wanted to say that I think that this is a great idea. I know that newbies must be nervous about signing up with the fear of being banned or just being a new person on this site. Thanks for taking the chance on them, because to all of you newbies out there... this is so addictive! I hope everyone has a great time with this and WELCOME :)

this is so great!! I wasn't allowed to join a swap because I was new... which is so frusterating!! How're you supposed to get a rating if your not allowed to join anything!! I am so excited about joining Swap-bot!! This kind of stuff is so right up my alley!

Question, what is a "fat quarter"? I'm guessing it has to do with quilting/fabrics perhaps, but I wasn't entirely sure on that one. Figured I'd ask.

from a quilting site: Fat Quarter: a common fabric measurement in the US. Fat quarters are pre-cut pieces of cloth, approximately 18" x 22"

Hi, i've signed up for this it's a good idea to help us 'newbies' get started can we do an ATC for this? ...and what do you mean by getting hearts?

well, there's nothing in the description that calls for an atc. you can send one extra but it is not one of the two items you have to choose to send to your partner

as for the hearts, that refers to ratings - a person can be given a heart in addition to the rating.

i will let someone else explain it as i don't think i would explain it right but just so we are clear, an atc is not something you are required to send for this swap. you must send two items off the list posted in the swap description. thanks!

Yes ikitten, i do recommend including a note in your package - let your partner know which swap it is for and your name (as well as your swapbot name). i think this will be a fun swap!

I didn't see that anyone had explained an atc to Lostangl, so here goes: An ATC (Artist Trading Card) is 2.5" x 3.5", the size of a typical playing card which is where the standard for the size comes from. Originally they were altered playing cards but, now they actually sell the blank ATCs for altering. There are tons of websites where you can get ideas for ATCs. Just google it.

I see that Diana was my swap partner. She has yet to send anything. Her name on the list is still marked not yet sent. I'm a newbie and not sure what to do. What a disappointment. My first swap and I get stiffed. Should I wait or should I just give her a 1?

Yowell- we can give it the rest of the week before we should get concerned. Sometimes things just take a little longer to hop the pond, so to speak. Ya never know, it could be in the post today. I'm remaining optimistic.

LvPoohBr2 and Nicole Solo, its only been 7 days since the deadline to send, so you might want to message the person that was supposed to send to you, see where the package is coming from (ie. overseas) and when it was sent and how they sent it. Keep in mind, they were allowed to send on the 2nd, and it may just still be in transit. Just my two cents.
