This is one of my favorite series. I really loved the year long Kandinsky Concentric Circles Project we did in 2016 and love all the wonderful hearts from 2017. The suns in 2018 were incredible. In 2019, we celebrated the moon and stars in our Up Above The World So High series. And for 2020, we will celebrate Portraits in our Face Time series. We will make a postcard each month that features a loose portrait or face predominately. Wiki's definition of portrait art is: "A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer." We will make a postcard each month that features a loose portrait, meaning it can be completely human, or animal, or creature, or some combo of the above.....just have the face you create as the predominant focus. Your eyes can be looking whatever way you choose, and do not have to be straight forward, though they can, if that's what you choose. Feel free to paint, sew, bead, mixed media, pyrography, photograph, collage, weave, etc. The art is all up the you. You may use any art medium to make your postcards. And I truly love seeing what you all create...feel free to post photos in the forum. This year we are changing the direction of our postcards. This year all the postcards will still be 4 x 6 inches, but they will be oriented Vertical or Portrait style. That means long ways, or the 4 inch part is the top and bottom, with the 6 inches being on the sides.
Your creation must contain at least one face, and how you interpret that is up to you. It is preferred that you mail these Naked, but if yours is particularly fragile, lumpy or beaded, etc, feel free to mail it in a decorated envelope or clear sleeve. Please include your user name and swap name somewhere on your postcards. At the end of the year, you will be able to mount all your series postcards together to make one big collaboration project. Portrait Art: You can make these separately each month, or you can do it all at one time by making a huge master board for the background, and then use them for each month's swap. You can participate in just one swap, or all of them, or you can participate as your schedule allows. And I will continue to host a USA and an International version. Have fun! USA Version is Here |
